I received this e-mail today. It appears that there may be a connection in all the ongoing crime in NE Philadelphia. Here is how it reads:

"AND THEY EXCLAIMED AS THEY RODE OUT OF SIGHT, MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!"

Dear Joe,

A couple of late party-goers have reported they heard this tune and singing by the merry band of miscreants who pulled off the 2:00 AM early morning heist of the WalMart Store on the Roosevelt Boulevard at the former Sears location.

Why not? This merry band were trying to share their joy of the Christmas Holiday with the community. It was a sign of their happiness.

Guess they should have been happy, understand they got away with over $300,000 in loot.

An early morning jogger has informed me that the homeless from all over East Frankford have converged upon and are picking over all the trash and rubbish at the crime scene looking fo anything dropped or left behind.

Under the cloak and direction of the Prisoner Relocation Programs initiated by the faith-based good-doers throughout the city - though managed by certain entrepreneurs who garnered and control the early grant monies in Frankford - the homeless will be sent back to their original dismal environs and replaced by two thousand former big house inmates armed with trash bags collecting the debris.

We should welcome them to Northwood -- just for the day and the cleanup!

Yesterday, it was the vandalism of Greenwood Cemetery and the looting of the valuable "court case legal papers."

Last night the big time robbery and looting of the WalMart Store.

What is next? Where will this crime wave strike?

Is it time to be "proactive?"

Is it time to implore our Commonwealth's Governor Edward ("Slick Eddie") Rendell for National Guard Troops?

All Northwood and all Northwoodians await your counsel, direction and wisdom.

However, a late breaking report has announced that in many parts of this city a new joyful reverie has been heard:

"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, BY GOD, DID WE MAKE A HAUL!"

Crime up and down the boulevard is nothing new or even out of the ordinary. I had a girlfriend who was locked in a walk-in refrigerator during an armed robbery at a restaurant. That period of time in the early nineties the boulevard was not just dangerous to drive on, it was a crime corridor going strait through the heart of the northeast. I even had a friend who was picking up breakfast before work, and walked in on someone being beat to death with a hammer during a robbery. It has been a long time since the northeast could be considered a safe place.
