My Sister in Law bought a beautiful house on Hegerman Street about 1 and 1/2 yrs ago after selling her home in Mayfair..She was so happy at first and said that it was better then Shelmire ave in Mayfair, But she wants to move again already..
I went to her block party back in August and it was alot of fun, they had a DJ and all those blow up jump things for the kiddies and lots more..Then just around 7 that night., a guy that lives at the corner pulled out his gun when one of the neighbors began going up and down the empty part of the closed off block with her 3 wheeler.. She has been dealing with alot of petty stuff like the kids not getting along on her block and a neighbor getting robbed, she is like tired of it already.. I am going to tell her about this meeting , and also tell her that if she wants to see a change and see what she can do to help that she needs to go.. I hope alot of people show up..Good Luck, Malisa |

but, but, but MARC wants to take a survey. Shouldn't we wait until MARC's survey results? Shouldn't we wait until MARC comes to the conclusion that more flower pots will cure the problems in Tacony? |

We have been far too complacent, far to worried about stepping on TOES, while people have to live in fear because they think they are alone. I AM TELLING YOU, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, every single person I speak to has atleast 1 problem property on their block, I have nothing against Low income but do have a BIG PROBLEM WITH IGNORANCE, BELIGERANCE and People who live their lives auditioning for the Jerry Springer Show.
Everysingle person that works and has job or who is going to school trying to improve their life NEEDS TO COME OUT AND SCREAM!!! It's so much harder working then being poor, in this country. And when you come home from work you have the RIGHT TO RELAX and Enjoy your family, home and community!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I lived on the 6800 block of Tulip. One night we were shocked to see a police chopper shining down on the old bank across the street. The street was packed with police cars. Twice I had to call the cops on feuding neighbors duking it out in the middle of the street. There was also a motorcycle accident a block around the corner. All within a few months.
Tacony's a great place. It's only a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else. I wish you much success.

They did get a very good turnout. I was there and was quite disappointed to be honest. Rather than a unifying event, it seemed to further polarize things. It seemed to be building walls rather than bridges.
While I was there all of the things being criticized are very involved and can't be turned around instantly, like riverfront development or the redo of Torresdale Ave. The negotiations with the Streets Dept and Water Dept for Tacony Pointe and the red tape with the Streets Dept that MARC has to go through to get the new lighting approved are time consuming. Things that could be turned around faster, like prostitution or hiring more cops, weren't talked about while I was there. It seemed like a bait and switch to me. While I was there, it was mostly just a McGeehan bashing event, which wasn't how it was publicized. If you want to have campaign rally for Renoylds Baldwin, then go ahead full speed, it's our right as an American. Maybe it wasn't originally intended to be that way, but that's how it came off. I felt suckered.
