You are thinking of Haegels. I've never tasted a cake from them, but their holiday pastries are amazing. Whatever stuff I bought there last Xmas was a huge hit. For Fat Tuesday, their faschnuts are very deserving of their legendary acclaim.

It's on Erdrick. Between Levick and Robbins (either Sterling or Barnett I think).

Going West on Levick (the only way, it's one way), turn left onto Erdrick (another one way street). It's in the middle.

It's odd how it completely isn't on a major road, despite being so close to so many. It has been around a long time and has never left it's sidestreet corner store location.

People line up outside Haegels on Fat Tuesday, and with good reason.

Cool, thanks! I love a good bakery. I think maybe I've passed it at night and just assumed it was closed down. I'll definitely check it out.

The day of the parade, Haegels had a stand on the corner set up with some treats to sell. Well of course with kids you cant pass a good cookie up. We bought a bag or two and they were gone before we hit the house. They had to be the best cookies in the world. Needless to say that bakery will be on the top of my list from now on.
