I haven't been back there since my Dad passed away a couple of years ago, but my family moved out of South Philly to the "Greater Northeast" to a brand new house in Parkwood Manor in the early 60's. You knew everybody who lived on your street. I went to the first year at Stephen Decatur School and played Little League baseball over on Dunks Ferry Rd. The "Unknown Boy" used to buried in the Potter's Field there. I remember when the 7-11 opened (we thought Slurpees were just a new twist on water ice) Liberty Bell racetrack where Franklin Mills is now. As kids we could collect returnable bottles in a wagon, take them to the A&P (Byberry & Academy), get enough money to buy candy and get in to see the Saturday matinee at the Parkwood Theatre and not have to worry about the wagon still being right where we left it unlocked outside the movie. I guess things can change a lot over time, but my Dad despite complaining that "things just aint the same around here" stayed for 40 years.

As for the Wawa killing the 7-11, I have no doubt. Wawa has recently expanded down here to Virginia Beach and 7-11 hates them. gottahavawawa!

as mentioned people use their garages for storage..park over the sidewalk and that leaves one street spot per 2 houses.

Please elaborate. Assuming you meant this in a negative way, I don't really see the comparison between Hyman Korman's rowhome utopia in the FAR NE and "The K" .
