Default Northeast bars/restaurants

Having been away from the area for an extended time, of course I have encountered much change since returning. What are the best bars where you can hang out, drink some beers and have something decent to eat these days? I loved the beer at the Grey Lodge on Frankford Ave., but there's almost nothing to eat.

My favorites for both:

Chickie's and Pete's on Roosevelt Blvd right across from IRS. Fluke's on State and Bleigh. Benny the Bums on Bustleton and Red Lion (food expensive though), closer to where you are Nick's Roast Beef on Cottman ave across from Bennigans. Though I was only in there to drink and pick up ass, I heard T.J. Whelan's at Cottman and Castor was good as well.

Thanks Guiness, I have tried Nick's and liked it. It's one of the places that's been around for eons. I'll definitely stop in TJ Whelan's. I've never even noticed the place even though I pass through Cottman & Castor often. I'll look out for it.

Geno, we need to get some folks together for a bar night/happy hour up here. I must admit...the closest I've been to a bar up here is Chickie & Pete's on the Boulevard and Jillian's.

Jillian's is more 20s early 30ish and noisy. Unless Geno likes video games, skee ball, air hockey, etc. I think he was looking for more of a sit down have a beer and something good to eat. Jillian's is more for a group of people having fun. Also in the far NE is Flatspin, but that's more clubbish.

That's what I'm suggesting. I was just mentioning the few places I've been to.

That's a great idea Sycamore. Maybe late June, early July? In the mean time let's get more suggestions on good places.

Hey, dives are good too as long as the food is good and they have beer. What are your favorite dives?
