Default dinosaur lake

Has anyone ever been to dinosaur lake? I was there about 25 years ago. When we were kids the only way to get there was when the poquessing creek was completely frozen.
Just out of curiosity I did a search on it and found a really cool website(amusementparknostalgia.com) where I found info on dinosaur lake and whole bunch of other stuff. You really need to check this out. Lots of local area history there.

Thumbs up Yes

Everybody supposedly went there, but I never did. I forgot about that place.

That link is cool. I used I think for Soupy Island.

Donosaur lake. See how words trigger memories. Weird.

As a kid at YCWA day camp 30 years or so ago, I recall we could see the island and some dinosaurs as we walked from the bus to the camp areas.

Walking across the frozen lake to get there must of been really, really cool. All I could do was keep up with the camp group and see a few dinosaur heads poking out of the summer overgrowth. Nobody else but me seemed to find dinosaur heads in the distance odd, or even interesting. It was one of the many mysteries that as a child no one could ever, or would ever, explain to my satisfaction. It was another thing I had to chalk up to surreality and leave it at that.

You went to Day Camp? Only my brother got to go because my mom couldn't stand him anymore.

Oh boy. I can imagine how many times you asked about those dinosaur's. LOL
You needed me as the camp counselor. What I don't tell kids. They love it too. It should be a majical time.

Maybe you could trek back that way, and perhaps review. Then again I like how you chalked it up. You had to always be inventive, and unique.

Ummmm, my neighbor on Fanshawe used to make those animals from his hedges. The more senile he got the better the sculpture garden got. Then he set it on fire, and got in trouble. THAT was surreal.

Don't I wish?

Not at all like Edward, but I now wonder if he was inspired by the film. Nope, no Johnny Depp look-alike. An elderly Italian gentleman. Actually a dad of a friend of mine.

In fact I was talking to my friend after the dad poured I guess gasoline on the grass, and bushes, and lit er up, and he goes "Are you the one called the cops and Fire Department?" No way. I was staying out of that bush carving mess. Then my friend started doing it to his trees at his house. Passed on I guess in generations. His tree was a big pineapple.

You live on Fanshawe Street? Or near it? The reason I ask, did you know you've got a great old historic movie theater building right there at Fanshawe and Castor? At one time it was the Castor Theatre, but right now it's serving as some sort of furniture showroom, just like the old Tyson Theatre farther up near Cottman. And let me just say that if that building's ever up for sale it would make a great single-screen neighborhood movie theater again! Just thought I'd mention it in any event.

Dino Lake.
I think it is now under the SAM'S CLUB store at Franklin Mills.
As I recall it was back in that area off Knights rd.
I went back there with my wifes kids back in the 70s . The kids knew just where it was. It was there then . Pretty broken up but still there .
There was a Tyrantasaurus on the little island as I recall .
I never did know who built it or why.
I got another one for Ya.
Any one remember Camp Happy?
Camp Happy was a camp located where the enterance to RT 95 is off Frankford Ave. It took up the space between Frankford Ave. and Torresdale Ave. There is a playground there now but it is only about 1/10 the size that it was . There were cabins and a pool . It was a neat place .
It was torn down to build the highway in the 60s.and the homes you see along the south side .

If you remember Dino Lake ? do you remember the big old house that was on the other side of Knights Rd, up on the hill? I think it burned down back in the late 70s. There is a housing development there now.

Now here's a memory from the past. One summer when I was around 12 or 13, our family was vacationing at my grandmother's trailor in beautiful Rio Grande, NJ. One of the diner type restaurants we ate at had placemats listing local attractions. One of these was a hedge sculpture garden that some old guy had been doing for decades on his property. He gave the tours himself. It was somewhere on the main land in Cape May County. He had dozens of hedge sculptures. It was really impressive. It probably helped warp me into who I am today.

It was around the time Disney opened a hotel in Disney World and wanted animal hedges around it. The old guy said they came to him for advice, but he was unimpressed with them since they cheated by using wires. This guy's sculptures were all natural growth.

I'm sure it's all gone now but was quite impressive. Googling reveals nothing on this. Did anyone else ever see it?
