![]() Area Pubs Host Fundraiser for Family of Slain Phila. Officer by KYW's David Madden More than two dozen taverns in the area are banding together Thursday night to raise money for a slain Philadelphia police officer’s family. 'There but for the grace of God.' That’s what taproom owners like George Flocco are saying after Officer Gary Skerski (above) was gunned down in May after walking in on a robbery at a Frankford bar: "Gary Skerski died so other people could live, and this is our way to thank the police department and his family." His East Falls bar will team up with more than two dozen others from South Street to Conshohocken on Thursday evening. A $5 cover charge will go directly to Skerski’s family. A suspect in Skerski’s murder, Solomon Montgomery, is awaiting trial.
