In CA (granted, it was college) it was texans who were the opinionated, overly-proud of their home state A-holes.. It seems like in Philadelphia its the Californians (myself included) The extent to which I have toned mine down is probably unnoticeable to locals.. |

Maybe they are giving people what they want, if so good for them. But we have gone from weekly customers to non-customers. Now it's back to South Philly for really good tacos. Hopefully for Taco Lucas, we are the exception and they are now more successful than before.

Mr. C
I re-read your first post.. It's funny - I've been to La Lupe 3 or 4 times a week in the last month and each time I got a pierna torta, carnitas taco, and horchata.. let me know your take after you go.. I have got to get to this spot Acapulco - maybe next weekend.. |

Mr. C--I sympathize as I moved here from Arizona in January. I was fed up with the fact that there were Mexican joints on every corner, and came to Philly looking forward to Italian food and variety. Unfortunately, most of the Italian joints I've been to have been basically family-owned Olive Gardens and now I miss the good Mexican food.
I've been to Taqueria Veracruzana on 9th Washington, and it's pretty freakin good. I've also had the margaritas and guac at Cantina Los Cabolitos (told you guys I was there) and they were also yummy.

Mr California,
You should keep in mind(maybe you don't know this) that the Phila. area had virtually no Mexicans 5 years ago. The Hispanic population consisted primarily of Puerto Ricans who've been in the area for decades. You're used to the very large latino population in CA. It's all very new to us here. I would give it a bit more time wrt seeing more authentic Mexican restaurants. |

Right, this region of the country does not have a long tradition of very large Mexican communities. That's changing now, and the Italian Market area is richer for it, but it's just simple fact that this is a different part of the country with different mix of ethnicities. So you shouldn't really expect the Mexican food here to be like in California.
