OysterMick,

I like Thai lilies.

Then again a new trash can would be good. One with wheels. Put a red bow on it and I'd be thrilled.

I seriously asked a guy I was going out with to take back a bracelet and get me a new trash can.

I agree...very few places on the East coast can match the real Mexican "fast food" joints of the West Coast. Nothing like going in and making your OWN taco with REAL meat, REAL cheese and FRESH veggies. Taco Bell is junk food that they just add water to and it grows into the likes of actual Food.....reminds me of Soilent Green....LOL.

I wish I could remember the name of the joint we ate at....I have been out to California several times, but each time, we visited a different area...and each time the menu choices differed depending on our friends who hosted us. I reacall going to this really nice Winery/Resturaunt in LA and while talking to the owners, we found out they were originally from Fox Chase...talk about a small world.

Tacos Lucas on the west side of Frankford Ave and a couple of blocks north of Cottman in Mayfair has very good Mexican food. The first time I ordered beef tacos there they had chopped onion and cilantro, now they seem to be Americanizing their tacos a little by adding tomatos and cheese. However, the owners/workers are very accomodating and will make the food the way you want it.

Default try la lupe

The new go-to spot for my wife and I is La Lupe, which is on 9th and Federal I believe..

In our opinion Taqueria La Veracruzana has fallen off, whereas La Lupe seems to have gotten better..

I have yet to try Taco Riendo

I (but moreso my wife) feel your pain..

BTW - If you have skills, please open up a taqueria - there is a market (but not before I convince my mother in law.. in my dreams)

Edit: Oh.. excuse me -- I missed this was the Northeast forum.. My recommendation of a S.P. restaurant might not be so helpful.. It might be a drive to get down to Passyunk Square.. But if you go in the daytime you can get some fresh produce for cheap while you're at it..

pico de gallo, while sucking in many other respects, makes a damn good menudo. veracruzana has it on saturday as well as birria on sundays.

We were going to go there a few weeks ago when my neighbor recommended Acapulco, it's also on 9th, a block north of La Lupe.

It was damn good. Granted, I'm no authority, but it was tasty and cheep.
Not to mention it was one the days when it was about 600 degrees out, and La Lupe's open, non air conditioned storefront wasn't going to cut it.
If you check it out let me know how it rates.

Come to South Philly, 9th and Washington. Just walk around, there are at least a dozen taco joints. It seems a new one opens every month. And they are good, I lived in New Mex for two years.
