And it's unfortunate that there seems to be an "us-vs-them" attitude regarding MARC and some members of the community. It doesn't need to be like that. Maybe the leaders of MARC could host a community meeting sometime soon and lay out the details of their plans for the future of the area. Regardless of who wins the election (McGheean or Baldwin) we all still have to live here and do business here. A little communication within the neighborhoods will go a long way, IMO.

I was at DeNofa's deli (Torresdale/Tyson) the other day (great lunchmeat/sandwiches) and noticed a poster in their window about an upcoming festival of some kind in early September. Something about a concert and car show? Does anyone know what this is and when it is?

Your idea of a community meeting is intriguing.
MARC's Board of Directors will discuss it and explore the possibility of coordinating such an event. Any opportunity to get the community working together is well-worth the effort. Thanks for your input,

While I do agree with Scoats and cyaninthehood, the improvements help, this money should have been directed to the civic groups all along.
If you look at Mayfair, there was not a separate entity created to manage the funds appropriated. The civics were given the money to invest. Not the politicians. It is a clear difference in philosphy and in my opinon, from what I have seen, it was a crucial mistake. Last edited by David Carl : 08-20-2006 at 02:17 AM. |

I'm all for giving established civic groups grant $$ to use as they see fit in the community, but what about the areas of the district that have no civic representation? Who looks out for those areas? Also, maybe some people who are involved with the civics could answer this: If your group was handed a grant of say $50,000 what would you use it on? What do you see as the priorities in the neighborhoods where the money could be best spent?

Could you please disclose MARC's Board of Director's personal and or business relationship with McGeehan.
How would i go about obtaining MARC's expenditures? These are public funds available for public review, correct? Perhaps a link on the website would provide transparency. Where is the F-150 truck parked when it is not in use by MARC? Who is the primary driver of this vehicle? |

I am on the board of the Tacony Civic and I would say the most important thing we can do is take on absentee landlords!!!!!!!!! Zoning, Business Development Plan, Quality of Life Events and all wish list items. We are in the process of creating a sister foudation for the our Civic because We are SO SICK of the politicians and there false promises we are looking to be as self funded as we can. There are alot of big companies what contribute against Urban Blight.
