Default Northwood is safe! (sure it is...)

Police kill 2 home-invasion suspects

Hearing a woman's screams this morning, police entered an apartment and returned gunfire.

By Peter Mucha

Inquirer Staff Writer

While investigating a woman's screams, a Philadelphia police officer greeted by gunfire shot and killed two suspects this morning.
Police received a report of screaming at 2:44 a.m., and heard more screams upon arriving on the 5200 block of Oxford Avenue.
After receiving a superior's permission to enter the property, two officers were met with gunfire, police said. One returned fire, striking two men, who were both pronounced dead about 3:30 a.m.
A third man who fled was later apprehended in the 5000 block of Frankford Avenue.
Inside the apartment, police found a man who had been bound with duct tape and stabbed multiple times, as well as the woman and two children.
Apparently, police arrived whle a home invasion was in progress, police said.
Two officers received minor injuries. They were treated at Frankford Torresdale Hospital and released.

As we've been saying it's not that Northwood isn't nice ...it's that the areas close to it are so very rough it spills over.

Were the people that were attacked o.k.?
It just seems that as soon as warm weather hits you can really see the steep decline of the area. Each year it gets so much worse.
It's really strange because I was going by Northwood Park Wednesday because it was just so nice out. It was around 5:30. Nothwood Park was neat and clean, but there were two guys sitting on one bench drinking from bottles in bags just being really loud and it was "F" this and "F" that. There was a guy and a girl on another bench that needed to get a room, he was on top of her on the bench. These were not teenagers, they were at least mid 30's to 40's. And this was just as a bunch of young guys were coming out of the rec center there and some were walking through the park and didn't seem at all phased by the park activity.
The other interesting thing about this post is that the police officers were taken to Frankford Torresdale, not Frankford Frankford. More and more the Frankford Division of Frankford Hospital is not being utilized by insured patients. It's only a matter of time.

Things like this happen in Bucks county and New Jersey as well.

I am sorry to hear about the home invasion, although I agree with Pete that violent crime happens even in so called "safe" areas.

That's a common sight at Northwood Park. What a shame.
No one walking by dare say anything to them. And you're right. It will just get worse as the weather warms.

In all fairness I have to say I witnessed something far worse than that at Mayfair playground.

I was waiting with my child for the bus for the city summer camp. Which by the way is excellent. I was fortunate to be able to wait, and some parents had to drop the kids off and leave. Thank the heavens we had two adults there. On a playground bench pre-new JP building a woman kindly treated her male friend to a favor in broad daylight in a plaground.

O.K. I only saw a guy sitting there at first, and one of the younger kids says "Look at that ladies head". I flipped out. I went over, and told the filthy creep and her friend to get lost. The dude had a long skirt on. I kid you not. So obviously he went out with the full intention of this open air deed.

It never occurred to me to call the cops. I was the cops practically. There were eight kids waiting on this bus. Not until that night when some mom's called me did I understand the impact it had on the kids. People are awful.

That is just... absolutely vile.

You can be a weirdo in your own home, but why out in the open like that?

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Well it wouldn't make you weird this act in itself, but the fact it's morning, and like eight kids are waiting on a bus, and there's an entire row of houses across the street made it vile.

Probably being home, and doing it wouldn't do thus the outdoor thing. I guess that was the point. Well, just find somewhere in the mountains or something.
Kids don't need that. I hate for kids to be subjected to anything like that.

That guy may have gotten a little something coming to him anyway. Who knows? I'm all for a skirt for anyone who wants to ear one, but I saw him before on the street, and he had pants. Creep. Actually it was more her. She should have come up with some other plan. Somewhere else.

People purposely do things like that. It gets them off (in mroe than one way) to do something like that openly in public. Doing it in the mountains wouldn't have the same effect. It is pure selfishness though since they obviously know kdis are there and can see them and they WANT to be seen and they don't care what impact it will have.
