Default Philly Cop Shot on Levick??

Last night, April 14, there was a shooting at Levick and Langdon. The initial report was that it was a police officer shot once in the chest and twice in the arm. The man claimed to be a police officer but they never confirmed it over the air. Does anyone have information about that or know if it was infact a police officer?

While I don't know if the person that was shot was a cop or not and it was a horrible thing to happen, I would like to know since when was the 1000 block of any street considered Lawncrest as they reported on the news? To my knowledge, the air line through the Navy Depot over to Pennway was the cut off on the Eastern edge of Lawncrest/Lawndale. I have never known anything near Algon or East of it to be in Lawncrest.

Since my dad was born in Oxford Villiage in the 1940's, that area has always been known as Oxford Circle. Does this mean Fels High School is in Lawncrest too?...I don't think so.

God, I hate the Media!...lol

The local news often refers to Frankford, Oxford Circle, and sometimes even Castor Gardens - as "North Philadelphia."They should be a little more diligent.

I think the news gets the neighborhood wrong most of the time. I haven't heard anything about this shooting though. Do you have anymore information?

There was a blurb in the Daily News about it, but not much more info then we have here on the blog.

The initial report from police radio was that two black males were robbing a guys house.. he came home, they met him at his truck and shot him three times. They found out that the house was the home of a cop. they went to the hospital (Frankford/Torresdale) and the man said he was a cop but it was never confirmed over the air. ... Supposedly the manager of Dominos Pizza on Levick was a witness to the shooting.. and there were plain clothes cops and detectives at a house one 6200 Shelbourne til at least 1 a.m. and it was all in relation to the shooting on Langdon street. Oh, and just for the record.. I dont care if they get my neighborhood wrong. They can call it Brookhaven for all I care.. I know where I live.

Here is a small story that was in the NE Times today about this. It doesn't say anything about the guy being a cop. The victim wasn't from the neighborhood.

"Police on the hunt
for Oxford Circle murderer

Philadelphia police are trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting death last Friday of a West Oak Lane Man in the Oxford Circle section of the Northeast.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Levick St. at 9:30 p.m. and found a wounded man lying on the street, said Capt. Michael Costello of the homicide unit.
Francis Donovan, 45, of the 2400 block of 75th Ave., had been shot multiple times in the torso and was taken to Frankford Hospital’s Torresdale Campus, where he was pronounced dead at 10:39 p.m., Costello said.
Police have not identified a suspect or motive in the killing. No weapons or contraband were found on the body of the victim, Costello said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 215-686-3334 or 3335. ••"

Why...it now looks like North Philly.

If it looks like a rat and walks like a rat....

But in reality this happens all the time. Non-local reporters going by the condition of the neighborhood.

If you drove from City Line Ave and then up the Blvd...you'd think it was North Philly too by the condition of Summerdale/Oxford Circle.
