Default Correction to nomination information

Barry Howell has clarified that he will only accept the nomination for President. If he is not elected President, he will not serve on the Board of Directors. I have also just edited my previous post to remove his name from the secondary position on the list.

Hopefully you'll share the reason(s) behind such a "clarification". This seems to, or should, raise a red flag to the membership. Is it "back to the future" for NCA?

I believe that anyone may nominate members for office. The fact that he expressed interest only in the office of President doesn't mean that he originally sought the nomination for director and then changed his mind.

The nomination process is not the issue in my mind but rather the mindset that limits a persons willingness to serve the community to only the ultimate position. It is the "all or nothing" mindset which sounds uneasily familiar and which the membership of NCA should seriously contemplate. It is quite possible that an individual may be an exemplary Board Member but because of less than desireable traits, which this "clarification" may indicate, be a poor choice for leadership roles. This is especially problematic given the recent difficulties NCA has had to work through.

Thus the reason for the "clarification" is, and should be, of great interest to the membership. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation but it should be discussed non the less if only to attempt to avoid past mistakes.

Again, a show that the mindset will continue and fresh leadership is still vacant. Seems like the drama will continue even with the new group, sorry to say

Barry asked me to respond to these questions because he is not familiar enough with posting to do it himself. He told me what to explain to everyone about his decision.

Barry made this decision months ago. He feels that accepting a spot on the Board of Directors if he does not win the President's seat would deprive other NCA members of the opportunity to join the Board. He has served for years in the past and would like to give someone else a chance.

At this week's meeting, several members of the Board made it very clear that we encourage others to get involved by nominating themselves. And so two did.

Barry is active in Saint James Church (where our meetings are held) and will still work in the community if he does not win the election. He will help out NCA in whatever way he can.
