Default Look both ways!

Today as I sat at the red light at Solly Ave and Frankford, I watched a little girl who was no older then 8 crossing the street alone! Now that area to me is shifty, she could be taken right into thta park by some prevert or who knows. But what about her mother or father, do they not watch the news. A mother and kids were hit yesterday while crossing a street. Now if my child had to walk to school you know I am right there with them, but we drive. This sweet little girl was crossing against the yellow and I had my heart in my throat becasue she was looking downwards at her shoes, not once did this child look up! Please people grab your kids hands even if they are 18. It takes one split minute to lose something so precious. and another thing how does one go about getting someone to sit at that corner. I dont think its saafe maybe a crossing gaurd or even a police officer until school is in.

Exclamation Very well said!!!!

Very well said :clapping: DrivewayMOM!! The topic you brought up is something that doesn`t get addressed enough.I think it would be a good idea if someone of power made it mandatory to bring your child to school up to a certain age(Esp.depending on the distance from home 2 school, and if they will be crossing a big street)..I left philly for Florida back in 93, and I was amazed at how much better traffic was there..You did`nt here all these stories of children being ran down on their way to school,,and parents either walked or drove their children to school.. It amazes me that a parent can actually stay in bed while their 6 yr old child walks to school by themselves,,it makes me sad and sick to my stomach!! My daughter is a very mature 13 yr old and I still walk her to her bus in the am, and pick her back up in the afternoon(even though she has a freiend to walk with, and it is only 2 blocks away)..Its not even just about geting hit by a car,,its also about getting kidnapped, raped and so on..Esp. in the phila area!! I came back from Florida 4 yrs ago due to missing family, but didn`t live in philly apon my return. I went to the King of Prussia area and bought a home there.. They hav e the best school District in the state(Upper Merion), so now living here in Caster Gardens is a huge shock to my kids..They can`t go outside, they get sick when it`s time to go to school..I did`nt realize how bad the Norteast got since I left for Florida 14 yrs ago!! I came here to rent a home after selling my house in King of prussia so that I can save all my money and go back to Florida when the lease is up next Febuary..But to be honest I don`t think I can wait that long,,It`s crazy here. Two weeks after we moved in , my 10 yr old son was knocked out by an older Teen 4 houses away from me and he had to be rushed to the hospital..I have a $500.00 reward out but can`t come up with anything..My son doesn`t know what they look like since they came up from behind him..I don`t know anyone around here,,so what I do it go to Tarken Park 2 x a week since this happen a month ago and talk with the kids there to see of they heard anyone gossiping about it, and to let them know that there is a $500.00 reward..I will not let this go,,that is one thing you do not do is hurt a MOmmy`s little boy. Myself and his father have never laid a hand on him,,he has never been in a fight so this is the worst way to feel your first punch..He was in such shock and he is scared that someone at the school will do it to him also..So right now I am working with this place that is trying to get them into Mayfair, since it is k-8th,that way all my school aged children can go there..
Does anyone know of any other schools in the N.E that are known as a great or even GOOD School? Sorry for such a long Comment..
Have a great day!!!! Melissa Anne

Excellent post DM. Is that unfathomable or what? Sadly it happens every single day with kids left all alone. Makes you wonder if she went home to an empty house or somebody just was too lazy to go get her.

My bigger fear is that someone would grab her up. People just don't get it or don't care. It is our JOB to protect our kids. We''ll get called overprotective or my favorite paranoid. There's little kids like that running the streets up until 10:00 PM. Mom daon't even know where the heck they are until a yell comes out the window, and the stupid a*s finally figures she should go looking for a 9 year old at 10:00PM. It's that very same kind of parent who went nuts when the sex offender sites went up. Armed with 100 copies of the local sex offenders, and handing them out.

Well, geez now that's two men right there. Do other sexo offenders have cars? Yep. So they can travel outside their zip code. How about the molester hasn't been convicted even after numerous assaults? He's not on there. Or how about the guy who hasn't commited that FIRST assault?

People need to take responsibility and watch their kids. Skip the flyers dingbats, and watch these kids. Take them to activities, clubs, and anywhere you can momitor where they are instead of kicking them out to "go play" for eight hours. Makes me furious.

Miss'N, I'm so sorry that happened to your son. Good luck finding out who did it. Even if you did these kids are so brazen, and fresh they'll knock you out. They know you can't touch them. There's other ways to deal with that.

Yesterday I was on Brous Avenue, and one little boy had his bike taken from him, and the three creeps took his glasses, and stepped on them. They were about nine/ten. The little boy was Vietnamese I found out, and wouldn't tell his parents as they have a fear of the police, and us in general. I go right into it, and said "What kind of monsters are you? You pieces of s**t. Is that right? I mean is it right to do that to another person?" Smart mouths. I finished with "It must be awful to have nobody who cares about you". I walked the little boy home. His glasses were smashed.

We absolutely have a responsibility to care if our kids are getting run down by a car or grabbed up into the Sandorra apartments or whatever it's called now or into the park". Somebody jumps our kids, and we're supposed to let it go? No way. Sorry i don't know the school Miss'N. Something has to get better.

Yeah like every other little creep out there. Nah I didn't know them. They were terrorizing this little boy.

I hope he becomes an attorney, and they need him as a defense lawyer. No better yet he'll be a prosecuter. That makes me fume. First off how the heck do you get to be so mean that you would do that to someone? They smashed his glasses. Seriously somebody does not care about these kids.

My heart broke for this little boy. Oh I wish I was ummmm 30 years younger I'd a been fighting them. You can't NOT show heart. Poor kid will get beat up forever now. Probably got in trouble about the glasses too. I walked him home. Just what I would need is a Vietnamese family thinking I broke his glasses. Honestly those little *#@*&%. The little boy said "Thank you". He knew who they were. I encouraged him to tell his parents the truth. Hope he did, but what will that do? Little creeps.

It's funny (not really) but yesterday a little girl was found sitting on the steps of my parents neighbors house. she was crying and didnt know where she was. So finally as I was sitting there saying to myserlf "what is goin on here?" As it turns out the family just moved here or were visiting family around the corner (they didnt speak english very well, Italian perhaps) Strange things like this has been happening around holmesburg/mayfair for the past few weeks! Now for the biggest BANG!!!! Being a neighborhood family for the past 30+ years, we go looking around for the kids parents, but of course we call the POLICE, When do they arrive??? 25 mins after the call, and that was after driving past the house, ITS ON THE CORNER!!! I love this town!!!
