Just an aside from the Vegas trip.
I often run into people who have grown up in or had family in Frankford and have since moved on. It's like a club or something out there. I keep wrestling with it and I know all the signs are there, so I gotta' move out. I'm pretty much burned out and tired of running in circles. I just don't see where it's going anymore. So, anyway, I know there are a lot of people out there who once were here in Frankford and have moved on and whenever I meet them they tell me they hated to leave but just couldn't take it anymore. No matter where they ended up they seem so much better! I know I gotta' do it, it's just deciding where, what, how and when. I've been looking for a long time just about everywhere, to relocate. Like many people on this blog. I've been in Frankford a long, long time and hate the thoughts of moving because it's so difficult to find a place. Well... Thursday I had business to take care of over in New Jersey and just for the hell of it stopped to visit my brother in Turnersville. Saw a house there for sale and gave the Realtor a call. It's listed at $174,900 - three bedroom - 1.5 bath and a garage. It's actually pretty nice. I told the Realtor that if it's still available when I get back from Vegas, I'd like to see it. So, when I get back I have an appointment. I've been going around and around about this forever. I keep tossing around...do I buy? do I rent? Should I stay in the City? What section? Jersey? Florida? Arizona? It's never ending. In any event, I have - beyond any doubt made the absolute decision to put the house up for sale and move on. It's sad, but even if there is some sort of miracle rebound of the area, I really don't think it will be in my lifetime. Let's just say I'm a little past five decades! So, I'll check out Turnersville. Hell, maybe I'll get my own act in Vegas and stay! I used to be able to drink a beer and juggle while playing darts - that's gotta' count for something! |

You have to do what you have to do, I don't blame you. I wish you luck wherever you land! How I won't beat your ear off about how I love Bridesburg and you should move here as expected because that is a given with me. I will say that my girls father lives in Turnersville (High Taxes) and it is a very decent area for peace and quiet, not for me but a very nice stable place to live, we visit every Christmas time & on our way home from the shore in the summer. And 174 sounds low! Just be prepared to drive everywhere. Cappa

Dragonfly, I'm so sorry. I know you love your neighborhood.
Head over here like Scoats suggested. We'd love to have you. On an aside I didn't know this. That girl Kelly Monaco from the Soap's, and the first Dancing With The Stars I knew was a Philly native. What I didn't know was she comes from Harrison&Rutland. Moved to the Pocono's at 13. I'd seen her on one of those Punk'd shows. From her attitude with a guy (prankster) who was BSing her about money to get her car out of lock up I thought "Yep. That little thing is from here." She went off telling the guy she was not playing around, and he didn't know who he was trying to con. LOL So hey she learned from living here. |

I'm out of here soon too. Probably moving to Warminster area. I grew up in both Mayfair and Frankford and both are pretty depressing. I'll save on car insurance, city wage tax and school. I send my son to Catholic school. Hopefully I will be able to send him to public school up there.

Wow, it's like dealing with children on this site. Talk about taking things to personally. I've been in this city my whole life. 40 years. It sucks anymore - period. Before you know it, you'll be living in a North Philly atmosphere. Good luck with that.

I don't understand the apathy. As members of a community, why not get involved with civic associations or volunteer for a committee, or write letters and e-mails to the elected officials - something pro-active. Put pressure on the polititians and law enforcement. I am new to this blog (or any blog for that matter) and the negative, pessimistic comments astound me. If all of that waste of energy could be put to a positive means, Frankford, Mayfair, Tacony, etc. have the potential to be the greatest neighborhoods in the city! In the time it takes to write a message on this blog, an e-mail could be sent to somebody/anybody that may be able to affect a change. "The squeeky wheel gets the most grease." Tbullsr, this is not directed specifically to you and I don't mean to rant. But for heaven's sake people, speak up if your not happy with your community. It's your right as an American. Make the politicians and members of the Mayor's Council For Doing Nothing And Getting A Big Fat Paycheck earn their salaries. We pay them with our tax dollars. This is the reason I've recently become involved. I'm not happy with the Frankford situation and I intend to at least try to have a part in doing something about it. I realize people don't have a lot of time to involve themselves with meetings that are scheduled at 8 o'clock in the morning because they have to be at work. If you are unable to attend a meeting, send an e-mail. At least it's something. Oh well, I've had my say. I apologize in advance if I've offended anyone.
