Default Showing Philly

I have a country friend coming down to visit next weekend. She'll only be here Friday to Monday. Given the short time, I want her to experience Philly. I'm not interested in the museum thing on this, her first vist. I'm going to start at the 9th street market. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

You have to take her to Reading Terminal Market. Then chinatown. Old city, walk down Elfred's alley, maybe. Hit a pastry shop or two in old city, some old city boutiques. (Foster's, scarlett alley)Move on down to south street eventually.

Phewwwww. That would be a nice walk. My daughter, and I did that last spring. Exactly sans Pink Pastry shop. By the time we got to the El at 5th Street her dogs were barking. LOL I love the walk. Good lookout, Amy.

A walk up the Italian Market capped off by a Hoagie at Sarcone's is a great taste of Philly on a nice Saturday morning. Follow that up by a meandering walk through old city, and/or a drive up to Wissahickon for a short hike. Visitors are always amazed that Wissahickon is still in the city. Best thing about that itinerary is that it is practically free(aside from gas and a couple bucks for a hoagie.)

Independence Hall. The LIberty Bell. Show her where history was made, and where freedom was born.

I would say the Italian market is a good bet, or a walk down Kelly drive past boathouse row. Old City or Manayunk is always good for shopping or dinning.
The Reading Terminal is an excellent choice everyone always is impressed.
Remember that the flower show is still going on, also the schuylkill river walk is nice when starting at the art Museum.

Whenever I have friends in I do the historic tour with them, then the Art Museum for the "Rocky" part of the tour. Then it's off to a cheesesteak place, usually Steve's Prince up on Bustleton Ave.

Do they still let you go to the top of William Penn at City Hall? I always made that one of my stops when showing people around Philly. It's been a few years though so I'm not sure if they still let you. There's one little elevator that takes you to the very top and there's a visitor's book you can sign. There were signatures from all over the world in that book. Most people don't even know about the top of William Penn. But if it's open, it's cool and though City Hall isn't the cleanest building around, it sure has beautiful architecture. Then you can take her to the Nodding Head for a good beer and a tasty lunch!

You can only go up City Hall tower on weekdays. I think it's very cool as well. Just to be clear, though, the elevator takes you to the top of the tower at Penn's feet, not to the top of Penn himself.
