I am a middle aged NE Philly single adult male. There are plenty of clubs for young people, and lots of activities for seniors--but very little for those of us from age 40-to-60.
Any activity that advertises for "50+" is really "65+" (: ). Believe me, I've been there. And: "seniors event," really means: "elderly ladies talking about their pets, gardens or dead husbands". Now, God bless our youths and seniors, but what's available for us baby boomers? Where do we go to socialize? The "boom" to me, has become a fizz. |

Every time I see a thread like this I always write how I started one months ago about the same subject. The answer is we're screwed. I saw a suggestion once that those of us in the same age group with similar interests should hang out with each other, but the problem still remains. Even if we made the effort to get a group together where will our group of 40 something Phillybloggers go? I feel like I'm living in the movie Logan's Run...you hit 30 and then its over. Yikes!!!

Well, I'll tell you why there's nothing specifically for Boomers: we don't have time!
I've been dealing with elderly, infirm parent issues since I was 40 years old and now I'm 56 and I'm still dealing with that issue. Additionally a lot of Boomers have children *and* older adult parents that they have to supervise. I'm single and I enjoy doing things solo with the free time I have but group activities with my own peer group... the time... the energy... it's not there for me. |

How about hitting "Chumps". That place that used to be called "Champs"?
I think it's called "Lyrics" now. My neighbor loves it. Goes a few times a week. They do line dances, and all. Otherwise you can join the teams of singles our age at Michael's on the boulevard. The restaurant. Supposedly that's a happening spot. Big hook up's for people our age. I haven't been to either, but maybe worth a try. |

Lyrics? That's an over 65 crowd if ever there was one!!
They do play good dance music sometimes though. I would suggest Albert's Cafe @ Grant/Academy on the weekends. They have a separate club upstairs with a live band and a DJ and dancing. Last time I went there, the average age was 40. It was a fun time. I believe there was a $7 cover. |

Now that I know I might meet a retired gentleman with a fat pesnion I'm in. J/K Seriously I thought it was middle aged, but I guess now that is middle aged. I'm gonna crash one of those senior citizen joints me thinks. |

If you're invited to go to Lyrics, go. It's a good time. Get there early so you can get a seat. |
