Default Strawbridge's closing on Cottman

Anybody know when this store is changing names? Will it become Macy's? I heard that Boscov's is taking over some Philadelphia Strawbridge's. Please tell me that Macy's, not Boscov's, is going to be in the Roosevelt Mall store.

Anybody know? thanks.

I heard it was going to be Macy's. But I would still love to see a Kohl's or Target around here.

I would love a Target, too. Target is my fave store- great place for anything you want!

Macy's would be much better than Boscov's. I think it was ABC news who mentioned Boscov's taking over some of the Strawbridge's. I just don't like Boscov's. It is geared more towards the older people. My dad loves to go there... lol

Even if it was a lower end Macy's, I'd be happy.

Plus Boscov's sounds like a breakfast drink, not a shopping venue.

Its going to be a Macy's. Boscov's has bought 5 strawbridges, but they are all in the suburbs.

According to this article, Boscov's is taking over the following stores:

Federated finds buyer for Strawbridge's sites

Boscov's Inc. will buy 10 department stores owned by Federated Department Stores Inc., including five Strawbridge's locations, the department-store companies said Monday. <snip>

In the Philadelphia market, the deal includes Strawbridge's locations at the Deptford Mall, Deptford, N.J.; Montgomery Mall, North Wales, Pa.; Oxford Valley Mall, Langhorne, Pa.; and Willow Grove Park, Willow Grove, Pa. A fifth Strawbridge's store, at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall, Pa., is also included in the deal.

Ok, so since there is no duplicate Strawbridge's around here, I am assuming it really will be a Macy's? That's great. I didn't realize it was closing in March. I am going to head over there on Monday and see what kind of clearance deals are going on. Does this store reopen in September?

I wonder what will take the place of Strawbridge's in Cherry Hill as that mall already has a Macy's. That's ashame, because I liked going there and having the two choices. I wonder how this will further impact the business at the Moorestown Mall not too far from there. There was a Strawbridge's in that mall but if it becomes Macy's, will it take away shoppers from Cherry Hill? Moorestown Mall has suffered due to people driving over to Cherry Hill.

Burlington Center Mall near Mt. Holly is also losing a Strawbridge's but most in that area will be thrilled to welcome the Macy's. That mall had been in a serious decline for over a decade because people went to Cherry Hill for the Macy's. Hopefully this will breathe new life there. I grew up in Mt. Holly and we avoided the BC for some time simply for lack of quality stores. Now, we don't have to drive all the way to Cherry Hill. That's terrific!!

Anyway. The Cottman Ave store changing to Macy's will hopefully bring up the quality of stores in the Roosevelt Mall. Let's all hope!! Let's keep Philly people shopping here rather than going to King of Prussia or Cherry Hill!

I wonder if they are going to hire the same store employees? I would hate to see them all get laid off simply because the store is changing hands.

From what I heard from employees while shopping (and saving a ton of $$$) there today that most of them will have to reapply.

btw... the deals there right now are insane! Thank god for income tax returns.

Reapply? I can understand why they have to put in an official application to be an employee of Macy's but isn't that just paperwork? I would hope that they could all simply be employees without the hassle of interviewing for the same job over again. Of course, they could be real jerks and lay off all of those people and hire new employees that are less experienced simply so they can hire with lower wages, saving the company tons of money. It's be a real dirty thing to do but it happens.

I hope all of the employees (except the problem ones) are rehired by Macy's. We can't lose any more jobs here in the NE!
