Thumbs up

I really hope that they keep the same employees and do not make them re-apply. I worked there part-time for 2 1/2 years and I can tell you that those people really work hard for their paychecks, especially the older employees. Alot of the employees have been there for close to twenty years and it's not like they make great money either. Many are permanent part-time employees that really depend on that second paycheck. Let's hope that Macy's does the right thing.

This reapplying thing doesn't make any sense. Macy's and strawbridges have been the same company now for at least 6 months. They are just rebranding the store. but the employees are already federated employees, so It should just be some paperwork.

I wonder what will take the place of Strawbridge's in Cherry Hill as that mall already has a Macy's. That's ashame, because I liked going there and having the two choices. I wonder how this will further impact the business at the Moorestown Mall not too far from there. There was a Strawbridge's in that mall but if it becomes Macy's, will it take away shoppers from Cherry Hill? Moorestown Mall has suffered due to people driving over to Cherry Hill.

Burlington Center Mall near Mt. Holly is also losing a Strawbridge's but most in that area will be thrilled to welcome the Macy's. That mall had been in a serious decline for over a decade because people went to Cherry Hill for the Macy's. Hopefully this will breathe new life there. I grew up in Mt. Holly and we avoided the BC for some time simply for lack of quality stores. Now, we don't have to drive all the way to Cherry Hill. That's terrific!!

Anyway. The Cottman Ave store changing to Macy's will hopefully bring up the quality of stores in the Roosevelt Mall. Let's all hope!! Let's keep Philly people shopping here rather than going to King of Prussia or Cherry Hill!

I wonder if they are going to hire the same store employees? I would hate to see them all get laid off simply because the store is changing hands.
I don't think the Strawbridge's to Macy's conversion has benefited any malls, atleast not Moorestown or Burlington Ctr. here locally. Moorestown still has a number of vacancies, and Burlington Ctr. is still dated just attracting a lot of mom & pop urban wear stores. The few nationally recognized stores are the sneaker stores, and Victoria Secret (which operates under a really old store front).

Cherry Hill is benefiting (out of that merger) in just that the mall owner can redevelop the entire mall and attract a Nordstrom as the center anchor.

I think Moorestown suffered a lot when Rouse/PREIT didn't put much investment into it, during 2000-now. A number of off mall plazas came up in that period [Promenade at Sagemore-Marlton, Marlton Square, Cambridge Crossing-Mt.Laurel, Centerton Square-Mt.Laurel] which seem to be attracting stores that could have gone into the mall, but now most likely won't because the off mall plaza they have chosen is too close to Moorestown Mall. The Lord&Taylor, strawbridge's (now macy's) side of the Moorestown Mall, which one would think would be a nice side of the mall, has never been more than 75% occupied.

PREIT is now doing some redevelopment work to Moorestown, and the mall will get Pei Wei, Chipotle, and Eastern Mountain Sports.
Considering that Moorestown township is one of the most desirable and affluent towns in the entire Phila. region, it still bewilders me why PREIT isn't doing more to make that place a better center. A number of stores that won't pay the high rent to be in Cherry Hill Mall, could go in Moorestown.

I also don't know the point of putting Lane Furniture, as furniture stores don't mix in well.

Burlington Center is owned by Jager Management. I don't know if its failure of the local area, or the Moorestown Mall and the Mt.Laurel stores being too close, or mismanagement or lack of resources by Jager which keeps the mall somewhat behind.

The Promenade at Sagemore recently filled one spot with American Eagle Outfitters. I wonder if Kravco Simon is now permiting more mainstream stores in that center, making it a competitor on another level for the malls. Before, it was geared almost exclusively upscale in the apparel selection of stores.
