Default Info on Morrell Park

I am thinking about buying a house in Morrell Park, on the 3600 block of E Crowne Ave. I'm just not sure of the area. Does anyone have any info on this block, or Morrell Park in general?

Better than most of the city...average for a NE neighborhood.

Safer than most of the city...average for the NE.

Morell seems to have a higher number of punks but little actual crime. Fair amount of shopping (24 hour Acme on Red Lion) and Frankin Mills Mall is less than a mile away. Well served by transportation (Woodhaven Road, I-95 via Woodhaen or Academy) and by Septa (Torrendale Stop R-7, 66 Bus)

Basically a normal NE neighborhood. Mostly middle class (some upper in Crestmont Farms) with rowhomes and park coverage (Edan on Grant and the numerous tree lines streets and creeks)

Less crime than 98% of the rest of Philly.

Is that near the playground and school? I think thats a nice area there, I take my kids up there for swimming in the summer. Some blocks are so so, but overall it seems good!

It's really hit and miss.
The homes are pretty nice and most of the blocks are from what I've seen.
But yes - there are a lot of wannabe thug white kids who hang out with a lot of thugs from all of the nearby projects.
If you have kids, be careful or they might wind up wearing oversize white T-shirts and Tims, with Dickies pants sagging.
Or - if you are into that sort of thing yourself, good for you.
You can pick up blunts at the nearby Wawa or 7-11. I see the blunt crackins out on the sidewalk all the time.
As far as Philly goes - it's still a decent neighborhood.

the nearby projects? do you mean lidonfield, over a mile away?

There is nothing wrong with Morrel park. Its a typical far NE neighborhood. Cul-de-sacs. driveways in the front of the houses.
I believe crown ave is a loop street off of morrel ave. Its about the same distance from frankford and academy. A fine place to live.

I guess. There are actual projects not too far away - and other cheap housing and apartments in the area, which bring in riff-raff and thugs.

But for the most part, the description above is accurate.

It really depends on your neighbors, I guess.
Had my house that I bought a couple years ago been a few doors down, I'd be screwed. You would have never guessed by looking at the house and seeing the people that they would turn out to be drug addicts who cause all sorts of problems.

I live in the area and I am content for the most part.

It's much nicer than Wiss...but has the same kind of thugs walking around. I lived on Knights about 2 blocks away from Red Lion for two years.

No real crime but lots of teenagers...lost a car mirror once to vandalism. Had to call the cops a couple times for teenagers fighting in the street...but no real crime (robberies..etc)
