[quote=Malloy]Im with ACE on this one, he needs to learn more about the area under the El.
On Philly blog, its OK for someone who spent their entire live in Bloomsburg to move into SWCC, live there for 8 months and then bash all Philly natives for leaving. On the other hand, here on PB its not OK for Philly natives who spent 45 years in their Philly neighborhood and watched it go from great to crap, say something bad about their old hood. [quote=Malloy] Thank you Malloy! It's true that many Philadelphians who have spent their entire lives living in this city and working within communities and politics and have an understanding of just how difficult it can be to expend all their energies and life striving for a better community can't seem to vent. If they make a statement it is immediately picked up by those that are new to the area or are coming in and don't have a grasp of what's going on tell us we're negative. It's not negativity, it's reality, and we are desperately trying to shed some light on real quality of life issues that are eating away at our neighborhoods. To open the eyes of people who want to look at this through rose colored glasses. We love our city, we just hate what's happening to it and without an understanding of the twists and turns of how things work here, some people can't understand just how difficult it is to get help. |

[quote=ACE]. I understand your children go to Frankford Friends, and that in itself shows that there's no financial obligation for you to HAVE TO LIVE in the area.
QUOTE] Ace, I'd refrain from making assumptions about people's "financial obligations" as you put it. Because we managed to scrape up enough money to send ONE of our kids to a private kindergarten does not mean we are rolling in dough. Why does sending my child to a really good school that we sacrifice in order to afford mean that I live under a different set of "obligations" or limits than you or anyone else? |

I am sorry. I understand, and know sacrifice to afford education for a child. More power to you as I see you strive to do only the positive for your neighborhood, and children. |

Most of the things that I really enjoy about life are because of living here. I love to read our libraries are excellent from the variety of books right down to the lecture series at the central branch. I love knowing most of my neighbors. Need help with something heavy walk next door and ask, how about someone to let your dog out while your at work, no problem give your neighbor the key. How about the people on your block that stop at the supermarket for seniors on your street. I like the amount of culture in the city because we are close to it and use it heavily. The Art Museum, PA Academy of fine arts, Franklin Institute, Academy of Natural Science the list goes on and on. The dinning in the city is also head over heals above anything in the suburbs with only a few exceptions. We have dinned at some nice places in the burbs, however most are disappointments. I love the Kimmel Center and also use it regularly. It is fantastic and would not consider moving to Bucks or Montco were I am from a one to one and a half hours drive away just to get there. As far as public space and parks go is there anything like Rittenhouse Square,Pennpack Park, Fairmount Park ,Kelly Drive , Schuylkill river park in any of the surrounding suburbs. Nice parks yes, However not like Kelly Drive with all the activity or like Penny pack were you can just get away from everyone. I am not saying the city does not have problems and that everything works smoothly, that our politicians only have ours and our cities best interest at heart. I just feel that many of the long time residents immediately focus on the negative, making some of the newer residents seem like a breath of fresh air with their more positive attitude. I can say this that if everyone’s self fulfilling prophecy of the lower Northeast comes true and I do have to pull up stakes and move ( I have no plans to) We won’t be heading for Bucks or Montco it will more then likely be Fairmount.
