Default French Restaurant on Cottman

Does anyone know anything about the French place across the street from Pat Shamrocks? If been open for as long as I can remember but I never see anyone go in or know anyone that ever went.

I was wondering the same thing. And like you, I don't know anyone who ever went there. Yet it's been there for ever.

My neighbor goes there on her anniversary every year, it is supposed to be excellent, pricey but very good!

I drive by it all the time saying I need to go in and never do. Maybe it's time for a Phillyblog group dinner in the NE to try it out?

It's called The Gourmet, a French/Vietnamese restaurant. I was there in the mid '80s and it was very good, but pricey. I know several people who have gone there, and all had good experiences. I would like to go back.

It's always been excellent. We used to go three times a year. Girls night.

My one friend announced in there via a singing telegram that she was expecting their first baby. She wrote the lyrics, and the telegram guy sang them, and everyone in the place was cheering, and some weeping.

It's very quaint. I do recall they didn't change the menu often though. Still I loved it in there.

Anybody want to go? Driveway Mom? It's that or a bar. LOL Or a curb.

Thumbs up Gourmet on Cottman

I have never been there myself but I know of others who have said it was very good. Yes pricey I have heard. But that is ok when you get a good meal, good service and a good time. And now there is the bar next door to it that you can go in and have cocktail first.

I am thinking about a friends night there in the spring.

But if anyone has ever tried the Guidos which is on Grant Avenue above Frankford Ave that is a very good place to go with friends. It is a BYOB right now. But they are in the process of expanding to the old Meat Market place down the street. They will have a liquor license and will be much larger than what they have now.

I would recommend it for a night out for a good meal.

Seems like those two restaurants are two places that you really need to know someone who went there before. Kind of like a SECRET find.
