Did anyone used to go shop in that clothes place "Jack Lewis"?
It was around maybe 7500 Frankford Avenue. It had both guys/girls clothes. Also it was around the time you could do the unisex wearing. Trade a belly shirt with your boyfriend. O.K. I didn't, but some people did. Their jeans were the big deal. They were $20.00 and in like 74 that was big money. Every morning me, and my friend would search Brous Avenue to see if any inebriated people who left Wick's Tavern lost money. Once we found $60. Three crisp twenties stuck in bushes on Hale, and we went right on to Jack Lewis, and got our pants then split the other twenty. Talk about a belly button showing. The pants were low, and the tops were short, and we'd sew the inside of the inseams to make them tighter, and the bell bottoms to flair out bigger. How did our parents let us out like that? |

Growing up in Bridesburg, we hardly ever ventured to Mayfair for our clothes shopping when we had "Frankford Ave" to go to. Edco's in the good years and Robert Hall in the lean years. Haven't thought about that in decades. in the early seventies, the American Pants Company opened and we could get our own "hippie" wardrobe. I remember the battles I had with my parents over that. We always picked up our Chuck Taylors at Lees Army Navy.

Remember when LeCompt was the main feature there later, Geno? Anyone who has sported a mowhawk would remember it as a karate studio. I'll actually look at the addy next time I pass. It may even have been people from Fleet's that owned it geno because the sales guys interchanged. The Velvet Lounge. Stop. That's where I learned beer before liquor makes you sicker. Great times. That LeCompt then moved on to do the cover "Welcome To The Jungle". I mean did he age or what? Bless his rock&roll soul. We get old, and he don't. |
