I'm back! I have found some properties in Tacony (by the way, is it TACK-oh-nee or tah-CONE-ee?) and Mayfair and was wondering if any of you could recommend (or not) the neighborhoods. We have a five month old, so we want somewhere we can get out and about with a stroller and feel safe and I am home a lot on my own when husband is working a call shift so I need to feel safe... Scoats has been nice enough to help me with one place but I don't want to make him do all the work. ;-) We will be getting out next weekend to explore different areas and want to know if there are any great gems out there...
Tacony: 4524 Tyson 4815 Unruh 4716 Disston 7229 Marsden 7024 Cottage St. Mayfair: 3214 Unruh 3332 Wellington 4313 Tyson 4102 Levick 3420 Tudor 3036 Fanshawe Thanks for all of your recommendations, I forgot to put in that we are looking to stay under $190 if possible but I have had fun exploring the properties you guys posted!! -Amy |

PM Scoats about the Tacony properties. Actually all of them including Mayfair. Personally I would skip the Levick Street property. That's just me though. Almost all of Tyson is great. Save for some homes made into duplexes. I am almost sure I know the house on Fanshawe. I know the people that grew up in there. In fact one of the sons just purchased the home on the corner of that street a little while back. That's an awesome block. There's a few apaprtments on that block. In fact when I got married we lived in them. No trouble in there ever. 3200 Unruh has great homes. It's a very nice block. You're virtually almost right to Frankford Avenue which is good for public transportation. I trully would like to live on that block. The houses are wide, and your door will face the next door neighbors. With both those you can walk just three blocks or so, and be at our mall. We like to call it the "Convenient Corridor". Wachovia Bank, Ekard, a very clean, and safe laundromat. tailors/dry cleaner, Dollar Store, Super Market, pizza/restaurant. It truly is convenient. Plus that's not counting all the other little businesses on the Avenue. O.K. did I sell you yet? LOL All the best to you. Hopefully you'll find the home right for you. I like all those blocks. Again, Levick either side of Roosevelt Boulevard can get way, way busy. |

I am actually interested in 4313 Tyson Myself. blocks from everything, two parks (playgrounds, school,) and a corner lot
I would go there. I spent twenty minutes talking with the neeighbor behind it on Algard, and she more or less convinced me that that house is a real steal. HUGE HUGE HUGE If yoou want another big house try 5913 Cottage, between Comly and Harbison in Wissinoming. It has been on the market for about 150 days or so now, so the owner maybe be willing to make a deal Good Luck, and let us all know how you made out!

Most people I know say TAH-cony unless referring to the bridge. Cheltenham/Sheltenham seems to split along Black/White lines, most African Americans I know say Sheltenham. Girahd is an old people thing to say. Sorry for going off topic.

I know of the place by the school that you refer too, but I have a heard time justifying 260K for a house there. I mean, 180-190 is cool, but that just seems too steep for Tacony
at least to me. 'course, if your selling it, and you find a buyer, way to go!
