Default Italians in Northeast??

I'm moving to Philly within the next year and I was wondering if there are any Italian neighborhoods in the Northeast section of Philly. I heard South Philly had an Italian section. But I'm looking for something more like Howard Beach, Queens and I heard the Northeast was pretty close to Queens.

Tacony, around Princeton and Torresdale traditionally was an Italian neighborhood. The Catholic Parish was/is an Italian parish. Not sure if it still is. Scoats, a poster who is a Tacony resident would know. In general though, Italian Americans are mixed in with a huge variety of ethnic groups in the NE. The Italian American presence is big all over the Philadelphia area, so you find decent Italian groceries, bakeries and restaurants everywhere.

Good question, Im curious too. Personally, Ive yet to find a solid part of NE Philly that is primarily Italian (like you see in South Philly) I know Tacony has an Italian procession/festival (Feast of Saints??) every year, but it seems like they are not the majority anymore (if ever?)

My wife is Italian and we go to the Italian festival every year in Tacony. It almost as big as the one in South Philly.

Our Lady of Consolation on Princeton at Tulip is still an Italian parrish. I think the parrish even has a regular Italian mass. I was at the Procession of Saints and Italian Festival at the church last year, a really good time.

We have both a Sons of Italy chapter and a K of C right in the neighborhood.

Tacony's Italian section isn't as dense as in South Philly but there is hopes of developing more of a Little Italy flavor (or as I prefer "Li'l It'ly") in Tacony. Better celebrating and embracing Tacony's Italian heritage could be great for the neighborhood. I for one would welcome an Italian Market type set-up in the Northeast.

If you want a tour of Tacony sometime, let me know and I'll walk you around. It's a great neighborhood.

Default Tacony

I spoke to my sister this morning, she lives by the Franklin Mills mall (I think thats the Northeast) and she was saying some parts of Mayfair around Tarsdale ave (I'm probably spelling it wrong) are Italian. She also said Tacony was a pretty rough neighborhood. Any info on this?

Take the tour with Scoats, you'll find different. There is a nice photo tour in the photos section also.

You would be amazed at what a cool neighborhood it is. The history is astounding. Scoats could probably show you the music hall. The library has this stained glass ceiling I believe made by Carnegie Mellon. My daughter, and I walk in that part of the neighborhood every Saturday. If it was rough I would not have her walk with me. There's alot of Italian families still there. I went to High School with girls from Consolattion, and some of them still live in the neighborhood raising their kids. They are all Italian.

Here's a link to Sons Of Italy In Tacony. My ex husband belongs to it.

You'd like that virtually everything, and anything you need is close by also. Even the Post iffice is quaint.

Hope you become our neighbor. All good things to you.

Hey, that's right.

Now how do you say it in Italian? I'm a medagon so I wouldn't know. It's like the tenth time I spelled that medagon word wrong.
