Default Charlie's or Vince's: Discuss

Yes, they're still the same, but you can get the same pizza at Vince's on Grant Avenue between Bustleton and the Boulevard. Same menu, same soda choices, similar no-frills decor. The only thing missing is the Tootsie Rolls (which I keep complaining about to them). They're mobbed on Friday nights, so another night would be better. Charlie's never gets crowded anymore from what I can tell- I think their days are numbered, at least in that location.

The family had a falling out some years ago. The recipe and ingredients are exactly the same at both places. There's a little more inconsistency at Vince's than there is at Charlie's- it depends on whose making them. The younger kids don't do as good a job.

BTW, Vince's used to have another branch in Holland (near 232 & 332), but it never got all that much business, so it's gone now

Default Charlie's

Charlies. Boulevard at Adams & Whitaker, just below where Sears used to be. On the southbound side. If you're in Northwood, it should be about 5 minutes.

I have never tried this place but will for sure! Will stop by on the way home from work one night! Thanks! ;-)

Mayfairchick,

Yes, Charlie's is still the same great pie. It's soooo good that I take my life into my own hands by eating their at least once a week. Too bad they don't move the business further up in the NE and do delivery...they'd make a fortune. So many folks I know still make the hike down there to get their fix...they'd do so much more often if it was closer.

As for Vince's pizza, same family, but to me the pizza just doesn't taste the same as Charlie's. Have had it from Vince's dozens of times and always diappointed. Gooooooooooooo to Charlie's, trust me. Take it out if you have misgivings about eating on the premises.

Is Charlie's owned by the same guy who used to own The Bus Stop at Torresdale & Harbison? Anyone know?

Thumbs up Fanti's

Fanti's Pizza
(215) 722-2822
(215) 722-7365
6615 Martins Mill Rd
Philadelphia, PA 19111

Their pizza is quite good---I drive waaaay outta my way for this little tucked away joint. My favorite is their spinach pie w/ sauce. Not too much cheese and the little bit of sauce is dolloped on top, upside-down like. I can eat much of this and never get ill. :so_great:

Yes, Fanti's is easily the best in Lawndale/Burholme and only a short drive from Frankford.

I remember LOVING Fanti's when I worked at the PPH, over 20 years ago!

Tried to go to Charlies for lunch on Thursday. They don't open until 4pm, except for takeout :-(
