When I first started going to Franklin Mills there wasn't an "online."

J.C. Penneys and Sears and Roebuck still had massive, phone book sized catalogs (oh the joy of the Wishbook!!).

When I realized that I was paying the same prices for stuff that I would have at Montgomery Mall I stopped making the rather nerve-wracking drive.

I was just up there last weekend. I'm a big fan of Marshall's and I don't know of anyone that is closer with that many housewares. I really like Saks Off Fifth and the Kenneth Cole outlets as well. I really wish we had a Coach one but I think the closest is Reading or Atlantic City now (that one just opened I think). I like to go there every few months. I used to make it out to King of Prussia a lot but now I haven't been there in probably 3 or 4 months...the drive just gets on my nerves and I've become better at locating what I want in Center City and knowing when it's lunch or dinner time, I actually have a shot at eating at a great restaurant as well.

Yes there was.

It just wasn't as commercialized.

I used to live just down the street from Franklin Mills from 2000-2004, so I was there on a semi-regular basis. It's not bad...the Red Neighborhood was a bit sparse, especially after Phar-Mor closed. Haven't been there since I left the NE, though.

in 1987/88 there were like what, three text only web pages, strn and pine, right?

(I'm backdating from the purchase of an album that I know I got at FMM, on what was not my first trip there. I can't find the mall opening date anywhere ...)

I'm not sure of the exact opening date either, but I remember my family used to take trips down to Franklin Mills when I was a kid (at least 15 years ago).

As a youngster, I though FM was pretty cool because they had that huge play area which contained Lazer Tag, a bowling alley, and rides. That area is now the Burlington store. I guess they have Jillian's for games, but its a completely different vibe.

I know that I went before they installed the rides.

But once they did, I went on the Gravitron. A lot.
