It's K & A most certainly...it's a local lexicon. It was plastered all around the neighborhood on banners. Don't remember if they are still there.

Kensington is what Fishtown *used* to look like for all you new people (last 5-15 years ) Although Kensington has always had a *tougher* rep. Now Kensignton has decline and Fishtown's on it's way to a new Starbucks. I tell my dad and he starts laughing at the prices (he moved in the 80's and was from Kensington originally)

Also, there are quite a few warehouse type buildings in PR just begging for conversion.
agreed. and then there's us, coming in for pierogies adn $3 big beers. mmm...
I'm not considering west of kensington ave but between there and aramingo. really things seemed to begin to go downhill after the tracks not after aramingo.
hog island do you take the El?
I think the area (west of the tracks) coudl be revived but it woudl take the will of someone with deep pockets to renovate a good chunk at a time. port richmond seems to have a lot of immigrants. I heard a lot of people not speaking english and real eastern (european)pop. alleghany ave has exremely wide sidewalks perfect for patios.

I rarely take it to my shop. I almost always have to transport something heavy or awkard.

There's defnitely a sort of neutral zone between the RR tracks and Aramingo. Then, west of those tracks, which is where my shop is, gets sketchy.

I'm actually inclined to agree with Davidintulsa, to a certain extent. The area between the el and Aramingo tends to be fairly peaceful during the day, though even that's changing, but at night it becomes a totally different world, especially between the el and Frankford Ave.

The area west of the el is definitely spilling over east of the el. There's a lot of drug dealing going on on what would appear to be nice, quiet side street corners. A lot of gang activity and prostitution, too. Shootings, knifings and even rowhomes getting burned by rival gangs... funny thing, though, is one of those rowhomes that got burned was getting renovated when I saw it a few weeks ago.

It's really hard to say what will happen to any of the neighborhoods up there with all the nice neighborhoods sitting next to the war zones. I would keep an eye on what's going on in Old Kensington and Fishtown. I know there are a lot of people starting to buy north of Girard (or Norris, depending on what 'hood you're talking about).

We know the area have problem with drugs and prostitutions. However can it turns around. Or is it at the point of no return? I do think the area is slowly improving....not as fast as we would like to see.

No, my impression is that that area is currently in decline (I.e. getting worse). Whether or not it turns around depends a lot on what happens in "Old" and "New" Kensingtons.
