Default Does anybody attend St. Malachy's Catholic Church?

I am searching for a good Catholic church to attend. My father from DC told me about St. Malachy's in North Philly. Has anyone attended a mass there?

I have never attended mass there, but I have heard that St. Malachy's has a strong parish and the school has high enrollment, despite the neighborhood being largely non-cathlolic. Typically, any parish that is close to your neighborhood will be good. I'm not sure what parish you would fall into, living in Overbrook, but St. Agatha-St. James in University City is a great church and a beautiful cathedral.

Wow that name brings back memories, went to the school for 8 years but was never a memeber of the church.

I live in Overbrook Farms in West Philly. I heard that the priest is an amazing person and the congregation is diverse and liberal.

I know this post is older, but...Father John McNamee is the pastor. He wrote a book called "Diary of a City Priest" that was made into a movie starring David Morse. I've never been there, only admired the faith and determination of a resourceful man who lives to help the poor. The work he is doing is so important, much more important to me than ministering to the well-provided for and the comfortable. Here's a link http://www.saintmalachyparish.com/homepage.html

If you live in Overbrook Farms, why not Our Lady of Lourdes? It's a gorgeous Church, and from what I understand has a beautiful 11 am Mass.

I've read Father McNamee's book, and he's certainly remarkable, but you've got some great stuff going on right in your own back yard with OLOL and Ivy Hall.

The parish of St. Malachy is alive and well. Yes it is diverse. Services are attended by people of many faiths.
The parish does wonderful work. They are true people of faith.
You may also want to visit St. Vincent dePaul in Germantown
