just like no one wants to live in west philly (see neighborhoods latching on to UC solely b/c W. Philly has bad connotations). Besides, if you say, North Philly, where is that exactly? north of cc but it doesn;t say much else. lastly, if you've spent time up there, it's not really a neighborhood at all.

Why doesn't anyone ever just look this stuff up, instead of speculating. The neighborhood is officially "West Poplar."

wtf? to live up there? the world has gone mad. I gues you probably do get a lot for your money but that's a bit rich for me. For that price I coudl get a decent place below market.

chinatown is already moving north into the east side of the "loft district" onto long forgotten areas of ridge.

Well, they've built some new housing North of Vine over the past few years. I'm not sure when the gated community on Callowhill was completed - prior to my arriving in the hood, but just west of that the Chinatown District did build some more housing just last year or so.

In addition, I've previously referenced the 27 4-story multi-use structures currently in zoning for the lot bounded by 12th, Ridge, Hamilton, and Buttownwood. From what I'm told, this is also a Chinatown District project.

Furthermore, there is a little bit of a squabble about what to do with the Reading Viaduct - Callowhill Assn. would like to turn it into a trail, Chinatown District wants to knock part or all of it down to make way for housing.

Also, I think it is the Vine Online site that labels the area Broad to I think 8th, Vine to Spring Garden as North Chinatown, with the Loft District being a sub-district.

So yes, Chinatown District is trying to push northward.

The terrible 'gated community' has been there for quite a while. What are these homes just west? There is a new building supplies warehouse, (where you can negotiate good prices as a walk in low volume customer) but I can not place the new homes.

I think it's amazing how Temple's student housing change (I think only the first year now you can live on campus) has created such a strong push for development in this area into Fishtown. There's quite a few Temple students living in rentals in my neighborhood. Can we get them to make all undergrads live off campus? (Though not in my immediate neighborhood). Lol.
