Moore Recreation Center, located in the Allegheny West section of North Philadelphia. Cecil B. Moore represents an amazing opportunity to continue an ongoing initiative to transform an important community resource in the neighborhood into a hub for safe, educational and fun activities for local children. Recently featured in a cover story in Philadelphia Weekly, the Center’s Advisory Council has led the effort over the past 2 years to refurbish the Center in order to better serve the community. Some of the improvements that have been made include a refurbished auditorium, a new gymnasium, and renovations to kitchen and outdoor basketball courts. The Center offers a number of artistic and cultural offerings, such as African drumming, dance, and theater classes, as well as providing a number of athletic opportunities. The Center also houses a “Curfew Center” that provides professional services and a safe environment for students in order to prevent violence among young people. This project will be an important step toward continuing the effort to improve this valuable community resource. Projects include: - Fence and mural painting - Outdoor landscaping - Indoor renovations - Children's carnival Lunch and t-shirt are provided.
