This is such a cool mural--thanks--have to go see it up close some time.

Here is another photo of an urban horseman:

Well, I'm not suburban, but am trying to get in touch with the people in the article to offer assistance along with some other people. If anyone has any idea how best to do that, let me know.

Wow. I had no idea.

Wonder if these fellers are related to the North Philly horse crowd in any way?...

Many of the "real" cowboys of the "Old West" were black and are responsible for opening up the west, and being a cowboy, was not what is depicted in the movies. It was a tough grinding job.

Yep, hardly a glamour profession. Which is why, if you spend any time in the Australian Outback where non-corporate cattle ranching is still a way of life, you'll see many Aboriginal cowboys as well.

The only time I want to spend any time in the Outback, is to get my Bloomin Onion.

Thanks for posting this story. I had no idea that there were so many horses living there -- very interesting.

is this the one that was shut down by the SPCA?

I still see those guys around sometimes, are there more than one stables? I love this story, I hate to think these were the people keeping the animals in bad conditions.

LOVE the shots in the park with the city in the background. awesome.

Me too.

All I know is I was here (at 22nd & Christian) the day this video was shot on 6-14-08:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab7GrxXuVQY

What you can't hear is the horseman's answer to the question "Where are you going?" He answered "I'm trying to get to North Philly before the rain starts." and then he galloped up 22nd Street, umbrella in hand.
