They've built seven or eight new dormitories since 1995 and partnered in the conversion of the Kardon Building to apartments. What else do you want them to do?

you're not gonna get shot. it's not a very good area, true, but let's not joke about things that aren't funny, especially in this city. i am a small, white, blond girl, and yes, sometimes i get some crap walking down the street, but on the whole practicing mutual respect goes a LONG WAY.

i don't walk alone after nightfall, but i ride my bike alone a lot. just don't be naive, befriend your neighbors, and c'mon down to francisville. we have trolleys!
that's nice. most of my friends recommend the loft district, though i suspect they're pulling my leg, seeing's how hardly any of them actually live there.

how could shredder say n---o? thats racist talk, that is .

MORE DORMITORIES: every time they build a new d., it gets filled right quick. freshmen gobbled up half the upperclass d.'s in addition to their own this year.
or make some of the blocks of rowhomes apartments a la the triangle or oxford apts. theres also another loft-covertible warehouse right across the train tracks from kardon.
and make the area, of course, safer.

I heard the school considered purchasing the Regency building for conversion into graduate housing back when Peter Liacouras was president but, at the time, considered it to be too far from campus. Too bad since it ended up as a total dump. The inside looks like a broad street subway station and people leave chicken bones in the hallways. The elevators are also broken every other day. But then they did some work on it recently so maybe it's improved (not holding my breath, though).

I was not aware of the breath taking pace that they were building housing.apparently there is a high demand for it, so why not build more?

yeah, they're building it at a breathtaking rate--white, 1940, 1300, u. village, oxford village, (maybe) elmira jeffries, kardon/atlantic, and the edge--but we're filling 'em even faster.

I think I live in the building you're talking about. I just moved in with a friend of mine at the beginning of October. Granted, we've only been here a month, but neither of us has ever had a problem. The subway right on girard is awesome - we both have a ten minute commute to work in center city.

I try to avoid walking around alone at night, but the few times I have I've been fine. I just stick to Broad. The neighborhood (especially immediately south) is pretty scary, but there's no real reason to be worried if you use some common sense.
