anyone ever heard of a neighborhood called westmoreland? there's the street, of course --- but i am reading an interview for work where a kid (in response to the question "what is your neighborhood?") says, "i come from the north philly projects. westmoreland." he lives around westmoreland and B (north of allegheny).

Never heard of it. More to the point, it's not on this PHA map:

Also, I thought Westmoreland ran east-west.

There is no neighborhood called Westmoreland...I'd have to assume he was just telling you the street he lived on??

Yes -- some years ago I visited a beautiful community garden, "The Garden of the Sun," at 17th and Westmoreland. I wonder if it's still being maintained. It was a crummy day when I went -- I'd love to go back and get some better photos.
