another update:

I mailed back the tag to her and she sent me a lovely "thank you" card along with a photo of her as a child with Butch. Brought tears to my eyes! He was a cutie- not sure what breed but in the terrier family.

Ours was HA4(don't remember the rest) The HA was for Hancock.

Basically a good idea, but with caller ID, I would doubt many people would make a "crank" call. Have you thought of calling your old number and asking for yourself? Really!
