i agree that something like S&F needs to happen but it would probably be just as effective to stop letting these a**holes out of jail in the first place.
I really don't think a middle-aged black guy fits the profile of the gun-toting trouble-maker ready to aim flame. I have a pretty good idea of who the targets will be and 4 of them were sitting on the steps across the street smoking some stank for 20 minutes or so (on a street busy enough to have a bus route). On the other hand, I was the only white dude on my block for about a year. I've had cops roll down their windows and give me the intimidating (if you're in the neighborhood you must be up to no good) stare until I took out my keys and went inside and i wouldn't like to be anyone law-abiding guy - black or white - who's been hassled one to many times and gets lit up by some john wayne douchebag because he says the wrong thing or makes the wrong move. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done but you at least have to consider that the longer it goes on the more likely we are to have an amadou diallo or sean bell. |

I'm sure that everyone is passionate about this issue, because of the murders. But is this really going to solve problems, long term? Maybe people would like to see the cops round up these young people and parade them around in front of the cameras but it will do nothing if these people get right back out. Yet no one will address this. A few people have already mentioned that Stop n Frisk is implemented in the city(and has been for some time), yet everyone keeps pressing on for a program that has already started. If you want it escalated, say that. Either way it will make no difference. That's the problem with this city(especially the police force), everyone waits for the problem to get worse before they decide to do anything about it. During Safe Streets the murder levels weren't the reason for all the police presence, drugs were. Something happened between then and now that has caused alot of people their lives. Maybe people should have spoken out before the election. I guarantee that when this murder epidemic goes away, the people not invested with this issue will get complacent, again. Maybe next time we can work on some prevention.

Well if those "young guys" had a good education, I wonder if they would find themselves in jail in the first place. Then again, people do stereotype so I guess intelligent young men, in the effected(sp?) area, could still be stopped and arrested. I hope I had the context of your question right.

well you kind of understood my statement except i meant what if the education was available to them when they got out or before they went in or after the sun rise in the east. basiclly they need an education and job oppurtunites along with many other things but those would be a start.
