Why not show the people who have struggled to keep this area solid, in spite of the decay of recent years?
If you live there, it's up to you and your community. Find a suitable wall and convince one of the community organizations that it's a good idea. Then approach Mural Arts with that idea and demonstrated support. If you can secure some of the funding, then even better. I can tell you though, if you do nothing then none of this will happen.

It wasn't met with community-wide acceptance; some said it was a lie, that the warmth embodied in it didn't represent the neighborhood. , or offered their hands for the photograph that the mural is based on.

"Known as" the peace wall?

No one in this area ever called it that.

Don't you mean "the catchy name the City gave it"?

That's thesame lot where the dead body was found a couple of months ago.

My family wont even walk up past that section because of possible trouble there. They have to "walk around" it each day in order to get to work.

"According to Golden, many of those people have come around, a good few during the painting of the wall, when they came out of their houses and offered lemonade and cookies to the artists"

Not according to the neighbors here. We Know the truth.

We know of the agenda of the so called" community of concerned citizens".

That mural will clean up the "appearence"of an unsightly
area,
but the false impression it gives is a slap in the face of this community.

Thank you for trying to provide your services here. I'm in no way trying to depreciate your efforts in my posts.

I just happen to know different, than the article that was posted here. I'm sure that your efforts may be sincere and I thank you for your time in posting here.

So you see it basically as propaganda? I'm not trying to be smart here, I'm really actually interested in how you see it. I'm not naive enough to think that a pretty wall will cure the problems of an a ****ed up neighborhood, but I've never heard anyone disagree with the idea of a mural on the grounds that it paints a false picture... (pun intended)

well lets look at some facts here.

Can anyone verify that the very same people who called this mural a lie, were the same people who greeted everyone with lemonaide and cookies?

The article you posted was a pre-written write up, right?

Can you verify personally that everything that was said in it is true?

I'm not being a wise guy when I ask this. I'm actually interested in knowing if you trust all the things you've been told, or did you personally witness all or at least most that was mentioned.

I think area murals are a big plus here but if you look around here in Grays Ferry you'll see that they all have one main theme. That is a diservice to the residents.

Even if you enter Grays Ferry off of the expressway You'll also see that every building in Wilson park housing project has one theme.

They all lack anything resembling those of European decent.

How can the City call these murals diverse? Our area really is, but the murals don't portray that.

Drive around here some day and you'll see, and then you can tell me if you think it's propaganda.

Again I'm not being a wise azz here. I'd like you to witness it for yourself.

I do have to retract something I've said.

I miss read the location of the particular mural that you posted.

I thought it was 28th and Wharton and not 29th as stated in your post.

My sincere apology.

It's odd to think that one block makes a difference as big as this does but it makes a huge difference.

When I referrred to my family's detour I meant that they wont walk up 28th and they detour up 29th for safety reasons.

That mural will make a good addition but lightening up a couple of hands a bit more might let everyone know without a doubt that those of European ancestry still live here in Grays Ferry, along with AA's, Asians and so on.
