But then why is the Northwestern community College of Philadelphia located in east Oaklane? Thats why I always considered EOL o be in NW philly.

Because EOL is East of Broad St, and Broad St is the East/West dividing line in Philadelphia. I can see considering WOL to be NW Philadelphia, but EOL not so much. I generally think of the area North of the Blvd but neither NE or NW to be "Far North Philadelphia" for lack of a better term. EOL might actually have more in common with Cheltenham than with any other part of the city (although I'm not very familiar with either place).

Thanks for the info folks, please keep it coming.

For the purposes of this project, I'm going with the official boundaries of E&WOL, which are as follows:
Code:
East Oak Lane:
Western Edge: Broad St
Northern Edge: Cheltenham Ave
Southern Edge: Godfrey Ave
Eastern Edge: Cresentville St

West Oak Lane:
Western Edge: Vernon St
Northern Edge: Cheltenham Ave
Southern Edge: Stenton Ave
Eastern Edge: Broad St
Basically I think of E&WOL as the northern-most neighborhoods in Philadelphia, which would make them part of North Philly. If anyone has a good reason to change these boundaries I'm all ears.

Just because Dave considers it that? I say Venezuela is South Philly since it's below South St. Anyway Oak Lane is in the northern end of the city, but it's decidedly NOT North Philadelphia (the particular section)

I work in West Oak Lane. This group is very active there right now.

Well, I did say it probably had more in common with the 'burbs than North Philly, even if that was its geographic location... and I always have maintained that I'm more southern than any southerner (from the deep-deep south).

I hadn't realized the city considered it a separate area of the city. That's a pretty useful document.

A lot of EOL residents would dispute that asumption. "North Philly" refers to North Central Philly and has a lot of baggage attached to it. EOL and WOL are no where near the area. The person who said that EOL is more like Cheltenham is correct.

Also when we patrol for townwatch our Eastern most border is 5th street from Celtemham to Godfrey.

Well, that may be, but I think that the "North Philadelphia" list here is the closest neighborhood that is appropriate for EOL/WOL. That's kind of moot though, since this is where the thread is. I'll certainly take note of the objection to being classified as part of NP for my presentation.

That's interesting, that seems to cut about 30% of what I've been considering EOL off. Do you do your TW by zipcode? I think 19126 ends at about 5th St, although I may be remembering that incorrectly. What is the western border of your TW area?

East Oak Lane Town watch patrol:
Western Edge: Broad St ( some would say 15th Street however)
Northern Edge: Cheltenham Ave
Southern Edge: Godfrey Ave
Eastern Edge: 5th Street

Hope this helps
