Not a bogus march like the politicians organize through the streets, as if the drug dealers and thugs will stop over such a foolish attempt.

Thjose marches are a ploy to make people "think" they're accomplishing something and it makes the politicians look like they're doing something.

I can't believe the public falls for such tactics.
How many marches have we seen over the years?

How about we start in our own neighborhoods and stop hiding behind locked doors....put away your fears and stand up for your city!

The cops cant be there 24/7!

More law abiding citizens need to arm themselves to fight off the thugs...this is a war...maybe not a conventional one...but it is still a war.

Exactly.......Commissioner Johnson said that "it takes 4 seconds to kill a person" (ABC News)....

I cannot expect the cops to be there when I need them....

How do we change the mindset of young troubled individuals that feel they have no hope?

You take the guns away and the problems still exist. These young men will still find ways to kill each other. I've said numerous times before that these problems run far deeper than just taking guns off the street.

We have to look at the black family structure and figuring out how and why it broke down. We must understand why only 50 percent of black males graduate highschool with most of them drifting in and out of the prison system. Marching and rallying isn't going to solve any of these problems. Those MLK days are over, we have our rights; now we just need to utilize them.

We need outreach programs and more mentors. We need community churches to step up and reach out to the troubled youth.

Parents need to be held more accountable for their childrens action and stop letting them run wild. Many parents in the AA community have failed outrageously. Standards in the community have been lowered on all levels and they need to be rasied again.

I don't think that's what she means, per se? I think that, as a Black man, I know that we have a serious problem with violence in the 'hood. If you take a look at the crime statistics, it's clear that many of the crimes being committed are done by Black males.....so they do contribute to the high level of crimes in the city...

BUT.....I also believe that other ethnic groups have increases as well.... I agree with what she is saying..that we, as Black people, need to stop playing the blame game and start making a difference....more mentors, more programs (NOT Basketball)...but serious programs that will enlighten a childs life, giving them hope in an otherwise bleak and despair situation....

I believe that people are scared....I've talked to many in my community and around the city; they feel that the new generation of kids (I call them the "crack generation")...lack respect, ethics, morals, etc...so for them to take a life means absolutely nothing! It sounds cold, but it's the truth....one of the reasons, I believe, is that they honestly "believe" that they have nothing to reach for...no goals...no chance at the American Dream...so...they will do whatever it takes. I used to think that when a child say..."I'm gonna die young anyway"..they were just trying to play hard...but now, I honestly believe that's how they think....so what do we do to combat this type of mindset....this negative paradigm has taken over and spreads like a virus.....then...it's reinforced by the media, music, etc...so...more cops will just be in the way...it won't change a damn thing.....it may help a little, but it doesn't attack the root of the problem.....

respectfully,

respectfully,
They, meaning the "younger" generation, all think its some kind of game.

When I was working in North Philly, near 19th & Jefferson, the people in the neighborhood wouldnt wake up until late morning or early afternoon and would congregate outside pretty much doing nothing. That used to irritate me to no end because there I was busting my hump building new houses and there they were just lounging around doing jack. I dont know how people can just sit around and do nothing....it amazes me.

Building new houses wont make the neighborhoods change into something better....the change needs to start internally.
