Jeez, some of you talk as if Olney is the Badlands incarnate. I'm with Mayfairchick on this one. Yes, the neighborhood's a little down on its luck, but there are still good people who live there and it's still better than a lot of Philly neighborhoods. You want bad? Drive around Strawberry Mansion or Fairhill, and then see how many complaints you have about Olney. 5th & Olney is miles beyond 9th & Cambria.

onley bhoy: Inky is actually sort of prospering as a multicultural parish. The building is in pretty good shape, by urban parish standards. The last time I was in the upper church, about a year or so ago, there was some water damage but nothing severe.

Google Maps has done EOL and part of WOL, but they haven't gotten Olney yet. You can also get aerial views on MSN.com's Maps & Directions. I actually tend to like that better.

Point taken.

Does Inky still have that big ol' pipe organ? - that was a trip at high mass and weddings and funerals.

Default Its all relative.

We should keep in mind that our perception of things are all relative to when we were born. Many people thought it was outrageous when gas went to 50 cents a gallon in the 70's, when they were used to paying 20 cents. It's the same with neighborhoods. While Olney might be still somewhat livable and decent today, it no way compares to how it used to be. Nothing does! It's just like the old saying "You can't go home again".

philde25 :
the last time i was in Incarnation church (upper)was over 6 years ago. It didn't look to bad, actually the only thing that i could think of that was different was the Lady of Guadaloupe (spelling) murial. And I know there are good people living there, i have family & friends that haven't moved out of onley.

Default Ah....Memories

The last time I was in Inky's upper church was for the funeral of my cousin Ray Ferrizzi. It's amazing how things change but yet Inky's church hasn't. Except for necessary additionas, such as a murial of Our Lady of Guadolupe, I would say that Inky is one place you can count on for stability!

Oh yeay, I was told to announce that on July 19th, in Pennypack Park, by the stage, there is a "reunion" of sorts for all the old Olney heads! If any of ya'll would like to go I am sure you would be more then welcome. Just BYOC! (Bring your own crap!) Grill, food, drink, and such!

I can't say for sure, but they probably still have it. Perhaps the more important question is whether they still use it. Many churches have organs that are collecting dust because they've either a.) decayed with age and desperately need repair or b.) they don't have anyone who knows how to play.

I agree with you. I work in Olney and see some nice streets, especially some blocks of C St. and surrounding areas, and some blocks of off Tabor Rd. Some people really know how to grow a garden much better than I can!
