Cool Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is now called JJ's Lounge I believe the last time I drove by there anyway. I was pretty close with Bucthy Lang too. I used to go out on his boat down Linden Ave back in the day until I bought my own boat. I was a member of the Columbia Yhat Club along with Butch too. Those days were near the end of the Inky era.

Default Ya Know........

Ya know, sometimes I wish I could go back in time and play double dutch on Sheldon Street or run to Mazy's for candy with my friend Eileen Connolly, but I have to get a grip, and realize that the today's world is completely different then when we grew up.
So we must savor those times!

I think my friend Jeanne Leonardo was trying to plan a BBQ at Pennypack or something. If anyone would be interested in going, please let me know. I think she was planning on July 19th or something. I'll have to ask her.

Default Some good info about Olney here...

a bit dated but still very informative. I was looking for info about Fisher Park and found this:

http://www.quondam.com/64/6306.htm

cool to know where some of the street names came from!

Default Olney History

Good article! I wonder if Olney turned out the way the first settlers expected?

I would say probably not. starting around the time this article was written (1985) is when the exodus began. it's such a shame at how dirty and run down alot of homes look now, especially in the immediate area where I grew up (mascher and godfrey ave). I could care less who is living there now, just sweep outside and keep up with basic maintenance on the outside of your house.

I guess Septa stepped in quietly as usual and tore down the Olney Station recently hoping no one would raise a stink?

Shame, it originally was a beautiful building.

Took a spin around Olney today, my childhood home which was on a tree lined street, is now on a street with two trees, it looks so much different now so much LESS inviting......in summers everyone had porch furniture and hanging plants, sat out on steps listened to our transistor radio..etc...the alleyway between our houses is half the size I remember it..we used to make tents tying a rope from our porch rail to the neighbors, this also served as our clubhouse and fort. I still love to look at the big stone steps at Fisher park, and the railroad bridge on 5th....

Everything that made the houses unique and identifiable is gone...I only knew our house because it was right by the telly pole. I looked around to see if anyone elses house looked the same..none did....
