My family was thinking about opening a business down the shore (wildwood, nj). My thought was some sort of healthy option eatery (fresh salads, soups, healthy wraps etc...). My thinking is there are no healthy type options with there being thousands of pizza/sandwich shops and junk food themed establishments. I know the draw back is that Wildwood is a vacation town and, who in there right mind eats healthy on vacation? Despite this train of thought, I do feel that many would welcome this type of place. I know that when I am down the shore for an extended period of time I get sick and tired of the same old pizza and junk food mess. Anybody else feel this way? I also had some local's tell me a place like I am suggesting would do much better in Wildwood Crest, where there are more year round residents. I woould like to maybe only have to keep the place open "in season", however, but not opposed to doing a year round thing if need be. Please, give some suggestions/advice! Anybody who is familiar with Wildwood or the shore scene in general can chime in with your thoughts. Are thre any other viable ideas out there.

It's been a long time since I vacationed in Wildwood. When I did, I remember it being largely a teen to early 20 crowd. I think teh early 20 girls might be interested in it but the teens will go for the pizza and fries...especially after a night of boozing it up

I'm in the process of possibly relocating down there and have been spending quite of bit of time down there lately. It's not exactly the winter ghost town that most percieve it to be. There's multiple restuarants, diners, cafes, bars open as I type this, including an exceptional upscale Italian BYOB in the heart of WW. I doubt they'd be open if there wasn't money to be made. I'm not positive but there might be a place on the order of that down here open year round now, I'll shoot by it when I get a chance. If my being down here somewhat regular can be of any help to you feel free to PM me.

The people that used to own Al the Steak King, that now own Juan Pablo's Margarita Bar and JP Prime steakhouse opened a place called Cafe Jon Paul that is doing that same thing-salads, wraps, paninis, & other lite bites.

To annex my previous post, Wildwood Hot Bagels (between SuperFresh and CVS) and Avalon Coffee locations also do healthy wraps and paninis. I think the awesome gelato place in the Crest (near Crest Shirt Shop & Primos- I forget the name) also does wraps and salads. Both Vegas and Star Diner have a decent size healthy section on their menus.
It's a really good idea, but a little late. You'd have to ensure that you put the time, $, and effort to do it better than these other places to really gain a foothold in that niche. If you were going to do something like that, I'd look into doing a Saladworks or Panera franchise- probably more expensive but you'd have automatic name recognition- or at least leverage the Saladworks concept for your own place. |

I mentioned the Cafe Jon Paul to the OP in a PM and it looks like there's another place of that type getting ready to open a little further down on New Jersey Ave(possibly formerly called the Foodery)was wondering if it's his. There's also a Stewarts that will be opening on the Boardwalk soon, looks like the construction is almost completed, maybe not "healthy food" but I'll definitley give it some biz when down there.
