Default Review from Wildwood trip last week

Had a good time.

Maui Dogs were excellent - I recommend the "dressed" and the "horsey."

Ate at Anglesea Pub - crabcakes are as good as ever, went well with my Smithwick's.

Sam's Pizza is rebuilt - pizza is as good as it's ever been and the dining area is much larger, colorful, cleaner. "Waitresses" - they just take your pizza order and walk it out to you - not real waitresses, they don't come back to check on you or anything. And they took a while to come take our order - I didn't tip ours for the delay.

Ordered some Rick's Seafood takeout. It was so-so. Clams were decent. "Large shrimp" - that was kind of a joke. They were tiny. Next time I'll have to remember to order the jumbo. They give you steak fries with your order though - I hadn't eaten fries in about two years or so. I couldn't resist - they were exceptionally good.

Ate ice cream every night from that miniature golf place when you first drive into Wildwood, over the bridge. They have the best ice cream anywhere.

Got bagels every morning from the bagel place right next to the Superfresh around 26th or so. They are phenomenal, but you have to wait in line for a while to get them. But probably the best bagels I've ever had. I like to just eat them as-is. No slicing, no condiments. Also - at home I eat a very healthy diet low in white foods and carbs. So eating those bagels did a number on my colon. It took me a week to get back to normal.

Boardwalk - okay during the day. Crammed with creeps at night. Same old stupid ripoff games and lame prizes.

I stay right near Anglesea where you first drive in. Nice family/working people. Once you get past 20th or so, you get more kids and creeps.

I haven't been to WW in years. My husband hates it down there. He's a Philly cop and he doesn't like being around all the N. Philly like creeps that seem to be popping up down there now.
I would love to go down for a day or two. I've always loved it. Laura's fudge is the best around.
I'm glad you had a nice vacation. Now you have me craving the shore

I used to be married to one of those. Nothing like them to kill off any fun. And I swear, he tortures the daylights out of our daughter who lives out at Drexel. If he knew half of the places she got around to in town with her friends, he would have a heart attack.

But, we go to the Crest. Nice beaches. Nice environment. Always take at least one trip to the boardwalk though, just have to. And no one really bothers you, everyone just wants to have some fun.

Where exactly did NW come back from? It has always been really nice. The quiter part of the Wildwoods. My biggest complaint is that the Wildwoods are being destroyed by greedy thoughtless developers.

We have had homes in NW since 1975 and, believe me, there were several yrs from 89-97 that were not so good. Property values wnet down, sect 8 housing was growing, the beaches were closed and polluted and the locals treated everyone else (shoobies) like they were intruders. When the local gov't down there changed, a lot changed for the better. Except we are still treated like shoobies!
The people that are making $ during this era of development are the old owners. (for the most part) who were letting their properties degrade, filling up w/Senior Week kids and cashing in. Well, they are cashing in one more time and I, for one, can see great improvement in the area. I wish they would build new, more modern motels for families, but no one wnts to manage them for the small profits they turn. Maybe the new convention center will expand the seasons and make it profitable.
I don't know if 20,000 new condos (exagerration) is the answer but I can think of 30+ motels that are better off gone.
PS- New are The new Tony's, Owens PUB, Sunset Bay, Beach Creek Grill ,Island Grill , Casey's On Third just to name a few...all since 1999!
And a brand new Steak House (not the cheese steak kind) is gonna' open where Peter Vincent's once stood on Old New Jersey Ave.

I used to spend entire summers down there but I haven't been back in 5 years. But I am returning in 2 weeks so I'm looking forward to Curley's Fries again.

Is Gateway 26 still open or did they turn that into a condo too?

I was just in wildwood this past weekend and I couldn't help notice all of the confederate flag memorabilia (particularly T-Shirts) in the shops. Who buys this stuff. This is New Jersey right?
