That's my favorite time of the day to spend on the beach. The lifeguards leave, everybody else goes home to shower and get dinner, and things quiet down. Love to just sit and gaze out on the ocean, and watch the sandpipers run along the edge of the water. Can you tell I LOVE the shore?

Default Jersey Shore

WE went to Cape May for Memorial day.. the best time as always.. No teens, no kids, (well just a few ) and no big drunk fights or loud partys.. WE love that beach and the resturants in CM.. The only problem is that it is very pricey.. WE were to go for 3 nights this weekend to come, but had to cancel , as we are trying to save for our August Vacation in Colorado.. (never saw Co )... So we are fans of Cape May for alot of years now........)))))

Had to post something about Wildwood --- ahh, the memories. Wildwood will ALWAYS be the shore for me. Our family has a house in Ocean City now but I still don't feel like I'm 'at the shore' until we take a trip to Wildwood, which we still do a few times each summer.

Growing up, we had a house in North Wildwood on 12th and Central - beautiful area, and still is for the most part - but this was back in the 70's ... then we always used to rent at the SAME place in the early 80s for like 8 years .. it was on 19th and Atlantic ... right near all those cool motels, which are all pretty much GONE. Then, throughout the late 80s and early 90s we'd all be goin down with our friends .. remember all the cool hotels -- The Thunderbird (which was knocked down JUST this past winter), the Lollipop, the Tuscany .. I could go on and on ... And all the cool clubs down in the heart of Wildwood - the Martinique, Quo Vadis (the big old church), the Stardust ... wow. Good times back then.

As far as Ice Cream goes - you HAVE to go to Duffers ... it simply is the BEST down there. Man, that was THEEEE hangout when I was a kid ... it was like all of South Philly transplanted there ! We had so much fun there. These kids today have NO IDEA.

And, can someone confirm this for me ... I remember the ORIGINAL Sam's Pizza ... and I could SWEAR it used to be on the OTHER side of Gateway 26 .. we're goin back to the 70s/80s ... if you were walking TO Sam's from say 24th street -- where Sam's would be on the right side ... you used to hit that really COOL waffle place first .. and then Sam's was butt up against the Gateway 26 arcade ... before the 'bend' in the boardwalk and being on the other side where it is now. My wife and I argue about this all the time .. someone please tell me I'm right !!!

And, someone mentioned Bozo - the high and dry guy in the Dunk Tank -- always insulting people -- who could forget him ... and Curley's Fries and Mack's Pizza (along with Sam's) ...

How about the Old Sportland Pier and the HELL HOLE and DANTE'S INFERNO !!! And, the old Golden Nugget on Hunt's Pier .. ahh, the memories.

Someone just told me there's a special coming on Channel 10 TONITE - all about Wildwood -- I wonder if it's like those ones that came on Channel 12 ...

Perhaps you would like to crash with Senior Citizens, Lois.

My mom's gentleman friend lives there on Washington at the foot of the gaslight shopping thingie. It's a retirement place.

If you ever are truly needing to get down there, and short in the pocket for loot in all honesty this man is the nicest, coolest, sweetest, compassionate 80 year old who gets around better than a 40 year old dude in the world. With no exaggeration if I asked could you and hubby could crash there he'd say "For sure".

He sends all us girls monthly a huge box filled to the brim through UPS gifts from that place Bath Time on Jackson Street. Mistral soaps, and Dresdner salts, and all kinds of lotions.

O.K. sorry back to the thread. I get hung up on anything bath related luxury.
Still not Wildwood though. I like The Abbey as far as Bed&Breakfast's go though. Everytime I have stayed it's been excellent. I prefer Cape May around Christmas myself.

Default shore trip

heheh Ace,

we love all of Cape May, But seniors?? not really looking for them. We always meet other couples in the B&B we stay at. All are in their 30's or 40's sometimes. So they are always on the go to explore the cape end to end....
Hubby does the surf thing at the beach we go to..

Oh my gosh. Quo Vadis. GET OUT. Also the Stardust. I got some old pics of all us disco ducks in front of some of those places. You're a tad younger though or I think being South Philly you would have mentioned "THE MANSION"
Blow you whistle. "Ewt, Ewt Let's All Chant".

Please also never forget that ride "Keystone Cops". Ya got in one of those cars and swore you were driving. Ya'd smash through doors and stuff. Of course too used to be down by the Waffles that fun house with the mirrors. My mom would never let us go in and would say "That's a fire trap. If there's a fire you can't get out". You know we got in there when she'd hand them tickets out.

How's about The Suitcase, The Bucaneer? Then there was that one joint looked like a spaceship. The Lolipop though who did not BEG to stay there?

Nobody ever cared either we had to walk so far to get to the ocean. It was a given. Too bad if you had to go back to use the bathroom at the hotel. LOL
Then dragging all those sand toys back, and hitting the shower, and getting ready to go up on "The Boards".

Nothing in the world. No place in the world. Nothing compares to our Wildwood. Hitting Munchy's for a steak before ya went up to the boards. Or the Dolphin Dinner. That dolphin spinning round up on the roof. That's how my gram would find her way back after getting off the
WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE

Also how we thought we were slick if to get somewhere in a hurry ya just walked directly behind the tram car. No crowd. LOL Great post Dez. One thing I love to remember is my mom handing out twenties like they were water. That's it for the night. My youngest brother would be back withing a half hour jumping from foot to foot with his hand out and saying "Just one more twenty, Ma. I ran out".

Alot of people have been doing even Vegas with their kids as they find it actually cheaper, and there something for everyone. It clean, safe, and family oriented. My entire extended family did it as well as Disney, and FlyinGN you are right. The kids, and O.K. even us just want Wildwood.

Well..I will really date myself. I remember THE STARLIGHT BALLROOM with Ron Diamond as the DJ, then sneaking out against an enforced curfew to go to Cy's Poolroom @ Cedar and Oak (?).

My daughters loved The Keystone Cops and it was one of the few rides they would take me on w/them.
My youngest and her friends rented an apt above Munchie's and I don't think you would ever eat there if you saw her pig stye.
Munchies site is now condos and they have 2 sites, probably both dumps!

Well this could be a bit ummmm weird. The people own that or did are interrelated to me. Their name begins with a M. Right? Then I met a guy from SWP, and dated him, and lo, and behold he stayed there all summer because they were family friends. That name begins with a F. Both Italian names.

Wow. Condo's huh? One of the people owned it recently passed her name maiden name was TM. Or was part owner. Is that them? Well they fed my mom's Fishtown German family in their homes, and they were quite hospitable according to my mom. That was back in the Saint Mary The Eternal days.

Keystone Cops. The bestest. Right, Mick? Starlight Ballroom? Heck yes you are dating yourself. You missed the "Ewt, Ewt, let's all chant". By that time I guess you were taking your kids on Keystone Cops. Then again there were some older dudes discoing with us. Ponytails growing out the sides of our heads, and those Candies high heels with anklet socks with I guess now would be called "booty shorts". Dance music, man it was the best. All the guys from SP looked like Tony Manaro.

Great, great memories. What was the pancake/breakfast place called across the street from Munchies? Always a long line. Ya got a slice of watermelon with breakfast. I mean who could ask for anything more than those great times?

Once we were allowed to stay alone and go down with friends that bus ride was a party. Poor bus drivers, but the coming home hung over, and someone ultimately puked the entire way home in the back wasn't fun even at 16.

We were all so fortunate. My ex worked with guys from Lindonfield Projects one summer doing landscaping. Do you know not one of those guys had ever been to the shore. No beach. Nothing? Now THAT is a CRIME.
