You are soooooo lucky! My kids know that if I ever won the lottery, I'd jump in the car and zoom down to OC, NJ to buy me a nice little beach house.

If I moved next door, would you keep the blinds open?

I grew up summer in Wildwood and was very sad to see the hard times she fell on in the 90s thanks to the center of Wildwood going with fedral housing. She's making a comeback though, thanks to the DooWop Society which hilights her cool 60's spaceage architecture.

For me, the only place to go now is Cape May: I go twice every year: Early June and mid-September when there are the least amount of children around. Pristine beaches and world-class restaurants.

Comparing Ocean City and Wildwood is like comparing apples to oranges. Ocean City is nice for families. Wildwood for kids and parties. You can get info on both at www.OceanCitySalesandRentals.com

Hope it helps

beg to differ. Wildwood has the best restaurants, best boardwalk, best ice cream places, best doo wop hotels and best beaches. If you have not been there lately you ain't seen nutton yet.. OC is nice but laughable boring as compared to the wildwoods.

Can someone go into detail how/why Wildwood fell into the abyss. How did it become a host to social service oriented residents which seems to be pretty unique given that it was a once mighty tourist destination and stable year round town.

Why did the projects end up in Wildwood?

I agree. My family used to have a house in(on?) the crest two blocks from the beach and many of my extended family members live there. I was there recently and was so happy to see that our old street and house are still doing great. The beach is incredible and the boardwalk has the best rides and waterpark. And let's not forget about the bay... We used to go to the OC boardwalk from time to time and I couldn't believe how dull it was in comparison. Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but you can't tell me Wildwood isn't good for families. Some of my fondest childhood memories are from my time spent there.

Wildwood is still a "mighty tourist destination"--the place is packed in the summer and pretty busy well into the fall/early winter with all of the conventions. Saying Wildwood has fallen into the abyss is really, really, really extreme.

Changed alot and not necessarily for the better over the years. The downtown area- The last time I was there I didnt know if I was in New Jersey or Guadalajara, no one was speaking english. The dresscode was baggy jeans, white tshirts, bandanas, backward straight brimmed caps, and lots of 180 lb. guys riding on kiddie bikes. Then as you went back towards West Wildwood I had never seen it look worse. The beach was fine for the most part, didnt even consider venturing up to the boardwalk at night.

There has definitely been a decline in Wildwood in the past 20-25 years, it seems it might be on the right track and I certainly hope they make it all the way back.
