I'm originally from Pittsburgh, so any beach is a joy to me. My bf and I take the NJT train to Atlantic City every few weeks, and spend the day on the beach. It is a very easy walk from the station to the boardwalk, and you don't even have to go into a casino if you don't want to, although we like to get a drink at the Trump Casino overlooking the boardwalk to justify our use of the facilities. I think that the train to the beach is one of the best deals around! Be sure to get your ticket at 30th street station before you get on the train (you can get 2 tickets that say 30th St to AC, and use one of them as your return ticket, since the machine doesn't sell returns). And, you can take a bicycle if you want - lots of room for them!

I haven't taken the train from Philly to AC before, but I am very familiar with AC itself. The area that teh train staion is in, while it formerly was shady, is actually a decent part of town now. There is a large outdoor mall that runs from teh convention center to the casinos. It is packed with all sorts of normal people during the day, and even at night there are quite a few nice restaurants in the complex that keep it from being desolate. Perfectly safe to walk and a sign that AC is (finally) being cleaned up quite a bit.

That was the plan. Safe and pretty from the road and rail into town to the beach and boardwalk.
Really good move by them. Philly should take note about how nice it is to have "sectors" and labeling neighborhoods on signage to direct visitors.

I just went there last week with my husband. We went to Rainforest Cafe which is a cool resturant and bought some cool cups that light up. Excellent service and food. I will post pictures later.
The sad thing is that it rained all day and then my umbrella broke. I saw a homeless man laying on the beach too.Last edited by aphillynative : 06-13-2006 at 01:50 AM. |

just read that the ac line's ridership was up 9% last year. warrington thinks it's him but it may have something to do with there being a reason to go to ac. that is, a reason for people other than elderly on the bus.

It may also have somthing to do with gas prices. Warrington doesn't deserve credit. His management of Amtrak was horrendous.
