Lauryn Hill so rarely takes the stage these days that anytime she performs it gets attention, but her appearance at the Vatican Saturday night made headlines for another reason.

According to Italy's La Repubblica newspaper, Hill read a statement criticizing the church and launched into a tirade against abusive priests. "I realize some of you may be offended by what I'm saying, but what do you say to the families who were betrayed by the people in whom they believed?" she reportedly told the audience, which included several church officials but not the Pope.

A Vatican spokesperson could not be reached for comment. A spokesperson for Hill at her record company, Columbia, did not have a comment and said the show was not booked through the label.
What are your thoughts on this?

Knowing that we have some people who are Catholic here on the Blog, was anyone offended by this, or do you support this?

I love L boogie! She can be controversial at times, but what she said was true. Whoever asked her to come to the concert should have asked her for her opinion of the catholic church first.

I hope she comes out with an album soon.

AMEN !!!!

I realize she's a public figure and her opinion might count to some but she's also said some real racist things that made me completely lose interest in her music (her music is outstanding so it's a shame I can no longer tolerate her). She lost me as a fan with all her puffy chested tirades.

Racist remarks? What would these be?
