Default Bill would ban abortions of 'gay' fetuses

I came across this and found it interesting:

A Republican lawmaker in Maine has introduced a bill to prohibit abortions based on the sexual orientation of the unborn baby.

State Rep. Brian Duprey wants the Legislature to forbid a woman from ending a pregnancy because the fetus is homosexual.

He said the bill looks into the future in case scientists find what he described as a "homosexual gene."

"I have heard from women who told me that if they found out that they were carrying a child with the gay gene, then they would abort. I think this is wrong," said Duprey, who got the idea while listening to the Rush Limbaugh Show.

Clearly Maine has everything else figured out and has to start predicting future problems. I wonder what the property tax is up there?

Limiting abortions to protect gays? Ha, it's actually quite a collapse of typical liberal-conservative distinctions. I completely support abortion rights, and I also completely support gay people, but since there is no "gay gene," the whole issue is more or less moot.

You're absolutely right. Homosexuality is a disease that can be cured. Jerry Falwell told me so.

Is that sarcasm directed at me, or Jerry Falwell?

Jerry Falwell. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on that.

I go back and forth on the abortion issue, but something like this is the equivlalent of saying "Let's kill it before it grows up." Or, rather, it's stopping the people who would want to do that - although, are there any people like that?

Half the abortions performed in the world occur in places where it's illegal, so criminalization doesn't prevent abortion. What should happen is universal sex/sexuality education and greater access to birth control. Then there would be fewer unwanted pregnancies and thus fewer aborted fetuses.

I do admit to having some qualms with late term abortions, though. But they make up a very small number of the total.

This story reminds me of when Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah-way the hell on the other side of the U.S.) proposed legalizing guns in Washington, DC. Things must be a little boring up there in Maine, and State Rep. Duprey just wants some attention. Everyone knows that Republicans don't give a flying fug about saving gay babies.

It's also a way to keep abortion in the news. It does seem to be helping the great divide.

This is a dumb attempt at legislation...I think?

If a woman can abort for any reason (the fetus is a boy or girl, the fetus has birth defects, etc) why would you legislate to not allow a woman to have the right to have an abortion for the potential gay gene?

This sounds like a backdoor argument to outlaw abortion. Start with the "gay gene" exception (which liberals might back) and go from there until abortion is illegal?
