Default Scott McClellan's Scathing Memoir

I apologize if this thread has already been started. I did a search and nothing came up.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what y'all think of this?

Well, no one's going to make money from a book defending Bush right now, are they? Look how the media is studiously ignoring Douglas Feith's book?

(Edit: I just removed a bad link -- to LTSP admissions!)

You linked to LTSP Admissions.

I agree that it's an easy money-maker. I despise Bush, so it's easy for me to agree (on the surface, I haven't read the book). I have to question his reliability. McClellan was up there in front of those reporters spouting off all this Bush rhetoric. I'd like to know more about his change of heart. If Bush is guilty of misleading the public, what of his mouthpiece? When did he realize that he was wrong? Is he claiming that he was misled, but that he was recently privy to new information?

According to several responses I've seen (Ari Fleischer and others) McClellan was in the same meetings but never raised any objections at that point. Everybody is pretty much in agreement that others objected, and apparently McClellan even says so in the book. So, if things were so troubling to him why didn't he say anything then?

Also, this morning, McClellan released a statement saying that his publisher (owned by George Soros) "tweaked" parts of the book so that they were not what he wrote. Sounds like some serious backtracking is forthcoming. Makes you wonder. I'll still probably read it, just because I like to see these things for myself.

I'm not sure if I'd describe it as spouting off...As the White House mouthpiece, I think he was just doing his job--and struggling at it toward the end.

I remember watching him on CNN before he finally quit, and thinking, "that guy looks like he really wants to go home, and guzzle half a bottle of Scotch." I was amazed to see how relaxed and happy he looked on the news yesterday, compared to his days in the press room.

He was on NPR briefly this morning, saying that he still respected Bush and all of his advisers. He thinks they just got swept up in the urge to control "the media narrative" in the build-up to the war, and that none of the deception was intentional. Which is pretty weak language for a guy who uses "deception" in the title of the book.

How do you, could you, & why would you, defend George Bush ? He is an enormous failure as a president.

Nothing new. What other stories are you going to break, the US didn't find nukes in Iraq?

McClellan is just one in a long line of former loyal foot soldiers now stating the obvious with revisionism. He's just trying to preserve his own legacy much like Colin Powell after the damage has been done and they aided and abetted. Additionally, he is trying to profit from it. If Iraq and the Bush presidency had not turned into the obvious disaster it has become he would not be distancing himself as he is now....the front cover would have a pic of him giving felatio to Bush..it would also be titled

“What's Happenin': Inside the Bush White House and What’s Wrong With Unpatriotic Liberals in America,”
