It does take thought to discover the truth, and the truth is not that the Chinese are "taking" away our jobs, nor are our leaders "giving" them away. The truth is that we willingly engage in trade with the Chinese (and Indians and Irish and Germans and Bulgarians and so on), who can produce some goods and services at lower costs than can be done here in the United States. As most any economist will tell you, this trade produces significant benefits to Americans who, in the long run, have their labor resources freed up to pursue higher value activities. In the short-run, it's easy to see the "costs". But, over time, we (and our children and our children's children) benefit greatly from international trade.

Suggesting otherwise is typically a consequence of not understanding how international trade works. If you'd like to learn more, start with this excellent post from Russ Roberts, an economics professor at George Mason.

I must admit, Korea (LG and Samsung) have been putting out some solid LCD panels. I believe Sony LCD panels are made in Korea through a Samsung joint venture.

I'm the idiot who will pay the major premium for domestic made appliances once these die. (dishwasher is on its last leg) I'm so sick of this disposable China crap.
A little known fact about Zenith:
Back in the early 90s, they produced a line of televisions that were made in Mexico, and wound up having a bad batch of picture tubes. This caused the whole set to fail, and became a huge expense to Zenith. I'm not too certain, but my observation to this was Zenith filed for bankruptcy, and LG/Goldstar bailed them out, under the understanding that LG would continue to use the "Zenith" name (since it is a time-honored household favorite).
This to me is sneaky politics, preying on Americans, using a trade name that was once known for quality for decades ("Zenith, the quality goes in before the name goes on").
The consumer has to be highly aware in order to avoid these corporate scams and name tossing.
If you shop for something, and like it, first inspect it in the store, turn it around, look at the "manufactured in ????" sticker. If it says "china", look around at other products and keep your options open. Unless of course, you have a throw-away mentality. I sure don't. My Technics (Panasonic) stereo system was made in the 80s-90s with quality design and is still by today's standards "up with some of the best".

Can you believe it? GE has been an icon in American homes for over a century, and they are exiting the business entirely! Published reports said that the appliance division may end up in foreign hands (translation: "sold to the Chinese")
They have a large manufacturing unit in Lexington, Kentucky and it seems to be only a matter of time before more Americans lose their jobs, pensions and benefits to offshore competition. There is no way that a foreign manufacturer would retain expensive US labor when they could use virtual slave labor in China.
GE has an extensive parts and service network, and I'll bet that whoever buys the appliance business will dismantle it. Soon we'll have "disposable" refrigerators, washers and dryers--if something breaks, just go and buy a new one . . .
How long before Whirlpool and Maytag follow suit? This is disgusting.

So you're finally getting disgusted?...GE is a global octopus that has absolutely no loyalty to the US; it is a trans-national global corporation...and a prime reason for the problems with these global corporations is that you will never find out who owns them...you would have to sift through a yearly corporate statement to see who owns the stock, and even if you did that, you would find the names of different 'nominees' or 'fronts' that are listed as stockholders, and then you would have to investigate who controls these 'front' companies...this is done on purpose, no transparancy, so that the real culprits cannot be called on the carpet when some big corporate scam or financial disaster goes down...the boys from Goldman Sachs might have some idea about what's what, but you will probably find that a large share of stock in any of GE's many tentacles is controlled by a 'hedge fund', and hedge funds are almost totally unregulated...anyway GE's CEO is one Jeffrey Immelt, and below are a list of some of GE's 'assets' taken form a list published by the Columbia School of Journalism:
